Saying Goodbye

The sun slowly sets, bathing the city in golden light. You and Alex face each other hand in hand. You look at each other, awkwardly looking for words.

"So, um, Toni. Enjoy your day?"

You smile and nod. "Heaps. You?"

"Uh-huh. Any plans for tonight?"

"I've got prac readings to do. You?"

"I have to prepare for some tutes I'm running tomorrow."

"Sounds fun."

"Yeah, great. Just means a lot of thinking.

You both pause, then in a rush, say at the same time:

"I'd love to spend more time with you but-"

"It's probably best not to-"

You both laugh. You say, "You first."

"I was going to say that I'd love to spend more time with you but I have to do this work"

"I know. If we were together tonight, neither of us would get anything done!"

You smile at each other. You see your bus roll into the stop. "well, this is me. Can I see you tomorrow?"

"Of course!"

"I'll message you when I get to uni."

"Good idea! I cant wait to see you."

"I love you Alex."

"Love you too."

You kiss one last time, hard and passionate. Your heart lurches as you leave him. You get one last look at him as the bus pulls away. You blow him a kiss and grin as you see him catch it.
