John remained silent, still surprised that a girl as gorgeous as Kate would have any misgivings about her obvious appeal. The silence stretched for about a minute, and finally Kate moved off toward the other girls without saying anything more.

That was really the closest John ever got to being with Kate. She never really seemed to let him in after that.
