Saved by the pain train express

With no warning, several boulders emerge from your left, colliding with the Scyther full ****. You continue watching as they slide across your vision, one after the other, as if you’re watching a train entering its station. Once it’s done pummeling the angry, scythed pokemon into the ground, the mass of rocks elevates itself high above the grass for you to see. You were saved by an Onix!

You look up in awe, blown away by the size of the thing. “W-Where were you hiding anyway!? N-N-Not that it matters. Thank you!” The Onix acknowledges your thanks with a smile. Hey, wait a minute, you have an idea. If this pokemon saved you, that means it likes you, right? An Onix would be a cool pokemon to bring along on your adventure. And strong, too! Okay, it’s decided, you’ll catch this Onix!

You don’t have your pokemon, so this will be tricky. Step one is to lure it into a false sense of security. You open your backpack, but your face goes sour when you find that you’re completely out of bait. Crap… all you have are rocks and Safari Balls. If you can’t distract it with food, then you’ll just have to use rocks to weaken it enough to catch. It might fight back though… You’ll just have to be quick on your feet!

You strike a battle stance, take a rock from your bag, and chuck it as hard as you can! …right into Onix’s mouth. It ate the rock!? Fine, you’ll have to be faster to get past its defenses. You grab several rocks and throw them one after the other, but Onix moves its head back and forth, munching on each one as they leave your hand. Soon your backpack is emptied of rocks, and Onix’s stomach is full. Shoot, you couldn’t weaken it at all…

As you pant from overexertion, Onix leans its head in close and emits a low rumbling sound. Is it… purring? This giant rock snake is purring at you? That’s so adorable! Maybe you missed your chance, but you give up on catching it for the time being and gives its face a hug. While you’re not looking, though, it sneaks its tail into your backpack and taps one of the Safari Balls. In a flash of red light, Onix poofs into your backpack. It caught itself for you…

Pokemon Gained: Onix

What a draining but awesome day. Plopping yourself down on the floor, you admire the brilliant orange sky as evening fast approaches. You consider fighting through the exhaustion to explore more, but the decision is made for you when a voice comes over the loudspeaker telling everyone in the park that they’ve taken too many steps and must leave. While you’re not entirely sure how your steps are being counted or why that matters, you don’t think about it too hard as you walk back to the Pokemon Center with your new pokemon.
