Chapter 2
Who gets chosen? How do they feel about it?
Sara Pascoe - suspicious
Sara looked down at the brown envelope on the floor.
"Important. Read Immediately." It read.
As impossible as it seemed, she couldn't help but suspect what it was.
"To Sara Pascoe,
you are the first woman to be selected for topless duty. Please report to the Department of Health headquarters at 39 Victoria Street, London tomorrow at 10.00 AM. If you believe you have an exceptional circumstance preventing you from attending please contact this number immediately."
Sara read through the list of "Exceptional Circumstances" she didn't qualify for any of them. The rest of the letter was a lot of legal dribble about the consequences of failing to attend. She put the letter aside and sat in a comfortable armchair, feeling a little surreal. There was no way it was a coincidence, the law was inspired by, her, she had been made the unwilling poster girl for the advocacy movement despite her refusal to make any official comment on it.
"Fair algorithm, my arse!" She thought, this wasn't an algorithm, she was chosen. Probably by some dirty old man with a twisted sense of humor.
What's next?
It's Like Jury Duty
What if page three modeling was a government mandate?
Celebrated comedian Sara Pascoe once suggested, as part of a stand up routine about body positivity, page three modeling be compulsory national scheme - like jury duty. Her idea actually caught on, but the law makers might have followed her idea to the letter rather than the spirit.
