Finally, she arrives at the center and walks to the entrance. Taking a deep breath, she opens the door. She tries to walk by the desk to sign in, but her tardiness does not go unnoticed.
"Well, well it's about time Melissa." Sandy says to her. "You are over 15 minutes late, why were you not on time?"
Melissa paused a minute and got an idea, that was quickly shot down.
"And we contacted your work and were told you actually got off early tonight, so don't bother using work as an excuse. So, I ask again, why are you tardy in returning?"
The golden haired girl sighs and says that she was pulled over on the way for speeding.
"Oh, well that actually is a reasonable excuse." Says Sandy "Show me the ticket and I'll document the lateness as excused."
Melissa got a lump in her throat. "I... uh... I didn't get a ticket. He just gave me a warning."
Sandy looks at her pessimistically. "Well, I at least need the name of the officer who stopped you."
Stammering now, "I didn't get his name, I was just driving on Route 55 and-"
The guard's eyes widened "Route 55, you say? On your card here it says you are to go directly to work via Route 12. Route 55 is miles off your route. You wouldn't be making an illicit stop at your home now would you?"
Melissa's face reddened and she nodded her head.
Sandy's face grew serious. "Go sign in while I write this up this infraction." She says sternly.
The brunette slowly walked to the main counter and signed in at the desk. She was in trouble, and she knew it. She looked at Sandy and saw the guard speaking on the phone. She then waved for Melissa to return to the front.
"Well, missy I spoke with the warden and he has decided to deal with this infraction tomorrow, so go to bed now, and meet the warden and I here at 9am."
Melissa nodded and went to her pod to sleep, if that was possible. She was very nervous as she lay in her bed, wondering what would happen in the morning.
