Chapter 4 by ewong ewong

Who do we follow?

Sandra Burke

Sandra was bored. Accompanying her family to the lake for the summer sounded like fun, but it was just a heat filled boring day after another as her dad only liked to go fishing while her mom was either watching old movies or knitting. This left the new graduate to explore the area.

Inside the cabin, she had found an old book in the basement, which told of a haunted lodge just behind the hill. It was used as a ski resort back in the day, but due to a freak accident, it had to shut down. Legend said it was due to a skiier who met an unfortunate end from falling off the ski lift. However newspapers claimed they had committed suicide. The residents say they can hear the screams and moans of a restless spirit as they walk past the lodge, thinking it is the spirit of the poor soul whose life ended on the slopes and is trying to get the truth out.

Intrigued, Sandra donned her most adventurous outfit of a pink tank top, jeans, and a backpack with snacks, water, a flashlight, and a camera. With her shoulder length brown hair, she looked almost like a young Lara Croft. She headed out on her hike to the lodge, which took about half the day. Luckily, she found some shade and drank some water before moving on.

The lodge wasn't exactly a large resort like modern lodges were. It seemed more like a large motel. A single level administration building with a checkin desk and a board holding keys to the rooms behind it. The rooms were accessed through two hallways leading from the desk. Each wing had fifty rooms, and had laundry rooms and maintenance closets halfway to the end. The East Wing ended with a recreation room that had a bar, television, ping pong table, and chessboard. The West Wing had a gym with free weights and a hot tub for soaking after a workout. It also had a locker room and shower.

Sandra entered and began to film. The place was dark, no longer hooked up to the electric grid. Her footsteps creaked on the old wood floor. Dust and cobwebs seemed to cover every surface. She took out her flashlight and turned it on. The lone light source gave the place an eerie feeling, but the daylight peeking though the moth eaten drapes and opened doors left some sense of security amd safety. Arriving at the check in desk, she looked at the map and tried to figure out which way to go. Examine some rooms? Go to the rec room? What about the gym, with the showers?

What does she choose?
