Chapter 5
by CLITaurus
Where are you?
Same place, same time
Nothing happens, although you know instinctively that the soldier's wish has been granted.
"I thought you said you could grant wishes" he says "Why am I still in this hell-hole?"
You suddenly realize that, even though you didn't mean to (you want out of here as much as him), you granted his wish exactly as stated. "I granted your wish, Master," you say, still unable to address him and other way. "You now have more than enough money to save you from having to join the army. However you did not wish that you were no longer in the army or that you had never joined and so here we still are."
"FUCK!" he swears "So I wasted my wish?"
"Not at all, Master, you still have a fortune awaiting you at home."
"Sure, if I survive this nightmare." He says his shoulders slumping. "I guess I'll just have to use my next wish to go home and then I'll be two wishes down. That's why you did it, so I'd have to use another wish. 'cause once they're used up you go free or something. You're just lucky I'm a stupid jarhead who isn't smart enough to make proper wishes…"
He seems to be talking to himself and you can't help but feel sorry for him. Obviously he was **** into this situation by financial constraints and just wants out. He's also kind of cute, in a dust-covered action hero kind of way. He has, however, brought up a possibility. Maybe your 'tenure' as genie will last only until you grant his last wish and then you will go back to your normal life.
This leaves you with quandary. You know that you could, if you wanted, reinterpret his first wish to mean "I wish I'd been rich enough to have never had to join the army" and get him out of here, even now, with two wishes remaining. However if you let it stand and he needs to use up another wish you might get out of your own 'nightmare' all the faster.
Give him a 'do-over' or make him use another wish?
