Chapter 18 by tailteller

What now?

Sally's evening

Perfectly content to leave Aurora to her learning, Sally focused on cleaning and entertaining herself. Her brother kept his place fairly clean, so it wasn't long before she helped herself to his game console and the sounds of a sci-fi war game filled the living room. After several hours had passed without her realizing, Aurora came in from James's room. Sally paused her game to look at her and smile.

"Hey."

Sally's eyes widened and she smiled wide when Aurora replied with an awkward, "Hel-lo Shal-lee."

"That's a lot better!", she jumped from her seat and hugged Aurora, who flashed yellow. Sally held herself away for a moment, grabbing Aurora's hand and placing their palms together before hugging her again and checking her response.

A look of realization washed over her blue features, and bright blue danced around her head before fading into one color for a second or two. She stared at Sally, "I understand."

"Yes!", Sally half shouted while hugging her again. This time, slowly, she felt Aurora place her hands on Sally's back. The excited woman bounced in place before letting go.

Aurora scanned the room, her spots flickering when she saw the screen. Sally followed her stare and gave a mischievous smile. "Curious, huh? C'mon let's see if we can teach you this before James gets home."

She sat Aurora down and connected a second controller before finding the instructions and showing her the diagram for each button. After letting her mess with it for a while, she loaded up a co-op game and carefully showed her the controls.

After four lost sessions, Aurora took a hard look at the controller that sat awkwardly in her non human hands. A flicker of white and green danced up her arms and she stood, carefully saying, "Ex-cuse me I must go to the vwrest-vwroom." And marching into the garage with the controller. Sally stared after in intense confusion. She might have to watch those videos herself before showing them.

After nearly another hour, she finally rejoined Sally. In her hand she held a panel from the bottom of an old keyboard. On the top, instead of keys, sat a pair of metal spheres that attached to the base at a small opening at the back of each showed a slot just the right size for Aurora's hands. Sally watched curiously as the cobbled together piece of technology connected to the console, and Aurora slid her hands inside.

What's going on when James returns?
