Chapter 62 by csg46x

Interrogation.

Revelations.

“Lawyer.”

Damien sat silently watching the interrogating officer. She really was quite attractive, but Damien figured now wasn’t the beat time to flirt.

The officer was of medium height, maybe 5’6, with a slim build. Her breasts were small and hidden by her clothing.

Damien decided he wouldn’t advertise his body if he was in her position either.

She was currently asking him about Sam Cother. Apparently this wasn’t a case of mistaken identity...that was a long shot anyway. Damien racked his brain for an answer as to how they had made the connection between him and Cother, but only one thing made sense.

He had been betrayed.

From where though? Where had the betrayal originated? And why?

Damien’s mind raced as he half-heartedly listened to the officer’s questions. Detective Anna Pascal if he remembered right.

Could the betrayal had come from on high?

Doubtful. He was earning and he wasn’t creating any noise.

Well...until now.

So a betrayal at home then. His men...or his family. No. Not family. Neither his sister nor mother were even a remote possibility.

Jack. Oh fucking hell it had to be Jack. The man who ‘dissolved’ the body at his orders. Why though? Jack had performed admirably during the event. He had even trained Damien. Hell, he had really bonded with Victoria, teaching and training her almost daily. Why would Jack betray him? Money? But from who? No... not money.

Jack had quit around 3-4 months ago stating that his ‘heart wasn’t in it’ anymore.

Seems quite a large gap of time between him quitting and now, which is why Damien didn’t immediately think of him. It’s the only thing that made sense though.

His lawyer arrived nearly an hour later. A tall, leggy redhead with a pretty face and a no-nonsense attitude.

Damien reflected briefly on the thought that he seemed to always get mixed up with attractive women.

When his lawyer kicked the detective from the room and asked for a private area for her client, Damien decided that his lawyer was a little more in-the-know than an outsider would be. Still, she didn’t need to know everything anyway. He was going to jail for this even with her help.

He had been listening half-heartedly while the detective was asking questions, but he knew they had a strong case.

They had a witness. They could place his boss at his home at his last cell phone tower ping location. The car had been found with his address in the GPS. They even had his DNA on the body. How the fuck did they get that?

Jack again. He placed it there post event. Hair, blood, fingernails -something. He had trained enough with Jack that he probably could have supplied a lot of any of those...well maybe not the fingernails.

No. Damien was going to jail. Now he just needed to think about how to get the blame shifted back where it belongs...and he was going to have to do that from prison.

Nothing is ever easy.

‘Trial’
