Chapter 26 by jealco

Find a spot to rest, or keep going?

Resting for the night

Better to get some rest before continuing on. She moved into the treeline south of her, far enough to be out of sight, then found a sheltered spot to settle in, against a fallen, moss-covered log. After eating and drinking, she dozed off, glad to be free of the fetid swamps at last.

The next morning, she arose. After having a quick bite to eat, she shouldered her pack and headed west, towards where the road should be. A half-hours walk brought her to the edge of it, and she turned south, setting a quick pace on the solid, paved road.

It was, unsurprisingly, untraveled, at least until she hit the junction where this road met the actual road used to go between Gaest, Carthin, and the like. Keeping her pace, she continued towards Gaest. the miles disappearing under her sandals.

It wasn't but a few hours until she spotted a wagons coming her way, traveling north. From the looks of it, it was a merchant, probably headed to Carthin or possibly Namina. It wasn't long before it approached her.

Surprisingly, the lead wagon pulled to a halt just in front of her, the man driving it looking at her, then calling out, "G'afternoon, miss. You look like you could use a few things." He was a big man, easily six-and-a-half feet tall, and fairly muscular, too. He had long, blond hair tied back in a neat ponytail, and was dressed in fairly nice, if not top-end, clothes. A hefty longsword and a bow rested next to him on the wagon bench.

For a moment, she was confused, then she realized his eyes weren't on her face. She then remembered she was topless, and belatedly covered her breasts with her hands, a faint blush crossing her face as she grasped for a response.

What does she say?
