Chapter 3
by Lord Marshal
Does Kal decide to head out for his duty shift, or does he make up his mind to be a little late so he can make conversation with Seven?
Report on time
Kal knew that he was supposed to report in only a few minutes, even though he really would have liked to go over and talk to the attractive drone, or even just sit and admire the view. Making his decision, he got up, said one last thanks to Neelix, and headed for the bridge.
Stepping off the turbolift, he made his way over to Lt. Commander Tuvok, head of security, who was discussing something with Lt. Tom Paris, the pilot, near the helm. Standing to attention, he said, "Good morning, sir. Reporting for duty." As his superior, Tuvok needed to know when he reported for and went off of duty.
"Very good, Ensign. Take your station." With that, Tuvok resumed his conversation with Lt. Paris and Kal walked over to his console at the back of the bridge.
Leaning over to the person standing just to his right, he asked, "So, Dren, what's on the schedule for today?" As she turned, Kal took a moment to admire her impressive physique. Ensign Dren Lovall, his fellow security officer, was considered by many of the males onboard to be equal or just shy of Seven of Nine in beauty, and she was considered the easier conquest because of her great sense of humor, a trait Seven lacked. It was rumored by a few that Dren's parents had had her genetically altered at birth to resemble the early 21st century film star, Angelina Jolie. Kal didn't know about that, but at just 28 and with looks to kill for, Dren certainly looked like a holodrama star.
"We've got sensor monitoring duty. We have to ensure that the new long range sensors work, and if they don't we need to fix them. Report to jeffries tube 13-A, section gamma. We start at 06:30. And you know, that area isn't exactly spacious; this day might get interesting." Winking at Kal, Dren then moved across the bridge to take a seat at the science station.
Kal couldn't believe it. One of the most attractive women on the ship had just told him that they would be spending the majority of their eight hour shifts working alone together in an isolated, cramped part of the ship. And she had openly flirted with him about it! While they had been friends for several years now, and while each had hinted at wanting to move their relationship along a bit, neither one of them had ever taken it further.
Kal spent the next ten minutes fantasizing about the day's possibilities, and hardly noticed when the door to the turbolift opened. It wasn't until she'd walked right up to him that he noticed the one person who could make his day any better, Seven of Nine. "Hello, Ensign," she began, "I am in need of assistance identifying several tactical systems on certain vessels we scanned yesterday. If you are free, I require your help in the Astrometrics lab in approximately twenty minutes."
Kal couldn't keep his mouth closed. He'd just been asked, in the space of ten minutes by the two most attractive women on the crew, to spend several hours at least with them in cramped, private, rarely visited areas. Though his duty was to report to the jeffries tube, Seven's special favor with Captain Janeway likely meant he could help either woman with no consequence.
Does Kal help his friend and longtime attraction, or the woman every man wishes they could pursue?
