Report of Poachers

As Mary rounds the sergeants desk she hears someone call out to her.

"Hey Xu, come back!"

With an urgency Mary turns on her heel and jogs back into the station to face Sgt Davis. A hulking black man with dark eyes and a jolly disposition. He's a former marine and makes sure everyone knows it. It's rare to see that side of him though, he prefers to be polite and joyful. The look on his face is all business though.

"Ranger Xu, we have a report of poachers near the Everwood Crest. We haven't been able to get the campers on the phone since. I need you to head that way and check on them. We'll set up stops to catch the poachers."

"Understood Sergeant, Everwood Crest can be accessed by boat as well right?" Mary was tracing her finger down the river leading from Everwood on the map Sgt Davis keeps under plexiglass on his desk.

"That's right. Boat is quicker yet we can't promise poachers won't go that way and find you. Driving is the safest bet. I want you on wheels and it's your call. I have to focus on the poachers. New directives and all."

Mary understood. The township and even the governor had been coming down about climate issues lately. They wanted guarantees that the forests and wildlife up here were top priority.
