Remembrance of the Odyssey

"We gather here today to honor the crew of the Odyssey," you began. "A few days ago, the first crewed human ship to travel beyond Earth's solar system encountered a tragic end. All aboard, save one, perished in the collision with the nearby subspace relay."

You took a moment to look out over the crowd of aliens to assess their initial reaction. Hopefully, they wouldn't find this too strange or boring. Thus far, they appeared to be captivated by the eulogy. The Greys all stared at you with their large black eyes. Meanwhile, the skimpily-dressed Cunis all seemed extremely attentive, but you suspected that many of them were actually more focused on your exposed Gargo dick rather than your words.

"Though you never met them, I will share a few details of each of the fifty-five Odyssey crew members that were lost so that we all might remember them." You then described each of your lost crewmates. After spending years together at ASE, you'd gotten to know many details about each of them. They'd come from countries all over the world, and many of them were notable for something beyond being selected to the crew of the Odyssey. For example...

"Beata Albach was a brilliant aerospace engineer from Germany. She also loved classical music and was a talented violinist."

"Thomas Buckwerth was a shuttle pilot from Canada. He was also an avid rock climber and a silver medalist in the 2222 Zero-G Olympics."

"Zabrina Rocha was a biologist from Brazil. She was also a part-time glamour model and often served as the spokeswoman for the crew."

As you continued relaying details for each of the remaining crew, the hardest part wasn't remembering that information, it was holding back the tears as you did. By the time you'd reached the last name, you'd reached your limit, and your watering eyes finally gave way to a flood of tears. Without any kind of handkerchief or tissue, you resorted to using the sleeves of your uniform to wipe them away. You noticed the aliens were now watching you more intently than ever. Perhaps they'd never seen someone cry before.

Going off-script, you explained, "This is what humans do when we're overcome by certain emotions. We cry when we're sad. It's said that the tears help wash away the pain."

After you'd regained your composure, you continued, "Although the Odyssey's diverse crew came from various regions of our world and each had distinctly different backgrounds, all of them shared a common vision: a dream of traveling beyond the confines of Earth, seeking and exploring new worlds, to increase our understanding of the universe, for the betterment of all."

"As the last survivor of the Odyssey, I vow to carry forth that dream. From the brief time I've spent aboard the Starpoint, it seems this dream aligns with some of your own goals. Thus, I hope that you would remember the crew of the Odyssey not merely as unfortunate aliens who perished as a result of their inexperience, but rather as fellow explorers who shared a common vision of discovery and learning."
