Realizing The World Has Changed

As you and Donna finished up your actual scavenging of the first house you headed back outside and moved to the next house, "Honest question, are you really alright with what happened today? I mean that walker got so close," You asked Donna while walking down the front steps,

"Yes, and no," Donna sighed, "I mean I'm not traumatized, honestly, I never expected to be one to act like this but these things don't scare me John. After the initial shock of everything I got over my fear in the first few weeks, I had too. I needed to be brave for my kids, so yeah I'm fine in that sense. But I am just angry I almost let that happen, I nearly left my family behind because I was acting like a fool. It's not happening again, that was those bastards chance to get me," Donna said with a grin,

"Well with rewards like what you just gave me, trust me, I'll be watching your back," You said with a wink,

"Mm hmm," Donna hummed back, "Just be sure not to get lost while you're watching back there,"

"No promises," You chuckled back,

While you knew the group that showed up to Wiltshire was a small group in the comics, the last person you really expected to be getting close to was Donna. Of course, you couldn't forget that Julie also had sex with you last night, that was a curve ball too. In fact this whole thing was a curve ball, you had sex with two people on day one and now the walker herd that should be kicking your group out of this place just seems missing. This was nothing like the world you expected to jump into, it seemed you really were free to change the world in any way you wished.

As that idea was sinking into your head, you and Donna both heard a shriek of terror come from the backyard of the house you were approaching. Your eyes widened and you both took off running as you heard a second yell followed but an immediate gun shot. As you and Donna reached the back yard you came to a horrific sight. Chris laid flat on his back, a chunk torn out of his face while dead walker laid next to him. Julie was on her knees in tears as she stared at her dead boyfriend. "Holy fuck," You uttered out,

"They came out to check the yard, this thing wandered around and grabbed Chris," Tyreese explained as he moved to Julie's side and knelt down, "Honey, I am so sorry,"

"Julie," Donna swiftly said while moving to her side, "Come with me, let's just get you back home," She warmly said while putting her arms around the girl and walking her out of the yard.

"God, Chris was so young," Carol lowly stated while shaking her head, "I can't believe it,"

"Dammit, I thought this place would have been safe but look at this, we almost lost two of us today!" Allen exclaimed, "God, should we even stay?"

"Of course we should," Tyreese immediately replied, "This place can be secured we just need to be more careful then ever now,"

"He's right, no place will every be safe when we show up, and most won't stay safe, but this place, these walls, once it's empty Allen, it'll stay that way without question," You added on with a firm nod,

"He's right," Carol nodded in agreement, "I hate to sound cold, but this doesn't change what's happening, we have to move on for all our sake, and the safety of the children,"

"Fine," Allen sighed, "I suppose I can't argue with that," Allen slowly stepped over Chris and headed towards Rick's team, "I'll let Rick know what happened,"

"Okay, I'll...make sure the kid doesn't come back," Tyreese sighed as he pulled out his hammer and pushed Chris's head to the side. Carol quickly looked away as he slammed the hammer down, cracking the teens skull making sure he'd never return to the world as a walker. "John, Let's get something to cover him up, then I think we all stick together, no more two and two, agreed?"

"Fully," You nodded. As you Tyreese and Carol went inside to find a sheet to cover Chris with you shook your head. So even with the changes you made, it didn't seem like the world was going to play by the rules that only you had control with what happens. Anyone could still die and no one was safe, and that fact, that was something that hit hard.
