"I'm here, I'm here," Adam's laughter came over the phone. "It's funny you called just now -- I was just about to call Audrina to pick me up."

Beth rolled her eyes. Dallying with the chauffeur was definitely not part of her master plan for tonight. "Adam, you can't afford to be pampered by any more women this evening. You've got to get home to your office immediately."

The request was unusual enough to rivet his attention. "What's wrong?"

"All I can tell you is -- the authorities are here, and you're being investigated for something. Really, we need you in your office this instant, if not sooner."

"Gotcha. I'll grab a cab."

"With a MALE cabbie."

"All right, all right -- with a male cabbie. All right? Hang tight, I'm on my way."

Charlotte was both amused and concerned as Beth signed off. "The authorities are investigating him?"

"Mostly true. WE are the authorities, and we wish to investigate this fetish of his and this porn stash he's been keeping from us. Oh, the authorities will investigate him, all right."
