Chapter 9 by TheArchitect TheArchitect

Time to do something about them.

Put them on.

After a pause Jen caught herself brushing the smooth, smooth surface of the boots.

"What am I doing? I need to get out of here!"

"Give me just a couple minutes, sweetheart."

"I don't have time for that." — the girl said less insistently, continuing to polish the boots with her nails as her feet were already getting placed in the main halves of the steel pieces.

"Alright, I'll just check how they feel and take them off right away."

"You need to close the halves, silly. That's the only way to put them on."

The fingers ran over to the pointed steel toeboxes of the boots, then rubbed the sole and the heel.

"This is so impractical." — Jen murmured daydreamingly. — "These toeboxes are designed to crush the fingers on my feet into impossible shape, the sole is thin and not giving any protection from the floor impact. The heel is also solid steel with nothing else at its tip to soften the walking process. These boots are a ****. It's a good thing I'm only trying them on before fulfilling their actual purpose. Now, where do I separate these halves?"

But Jen could not find the line of separation anymore at the same place she joined the halves so easily with a subtle click two minutes ago. Instead, the girl found a freshly-appeared keyhole on the boots' ankle part.

What are Jen's next thoughts?
