Prove she's not a lady

Faced with a choice between almost certain exposure and the barest inkling of a plan, Zelda chose the one that wouldn't result in Link seeing everything. She just had to prove to Link that she wasn't a lady. Whatever that meant. Her brain wasn't really doing so well on the "thinking things through" front today.

That's probably why she immediately did the least ladylike thing she could think of, and ripped a loud, wet fart, of the kind that would have probably soiled her panties if she was still wearing them. It was only then that rational thought caught back up to her, leaving her mortified at what she had just done. She honestly couldn't decide if this was more or less embarrassing than being exposed in front of Link.

While Zelda desperately wanted to apologize, or at least excuse herself, that would be the ladylike thing to do. She had already come this far, so she might as well commit. Trying to ignore her embarrassment, she began to giggle at her own flatulence. If this didn't prove she wasn't a lady, nothing would! Internally, Zelda sighed. There was little to no chance of this actually working, and she had just embarrassed herself for nothing.

Link was speechless. More so than usual. He had never seen this side of Zelda before. It was gross, but also oddly cute, if that made any sense. There was, however, nothing cute about the smell Zelda had just produced. It was overwhelming and borderline toxic. Despite Link's desire to be a gentleman, the noxious aroma quickly overwhelmed him and he dove into the lake in an attempt to escape it.

Zelda was absolutely shocked that her impulsive, half-assed strategy had worked. Wait, did that mean Link no longer thought of her as a lady? She was having a hard time not taking offense to that. Then she caught a whiff of her own fumes. Never mind, he was right. She definitely wasn't a lady anymore. No lady would 'ever' produce a stench like that. She had never been so embarrassed in her life!

Well, at least she had accomplished her goal. She could theoretically run back to grab her panties at this point. The problem was that she'd have to run to grab them before Link checked to see what was taking so long. And running would definitely remove the little cover the tunic gave her, leaving her exposed to anyone nearby. Or she could stick to her original plan and just stay behind Link. But there was a very high chance of Link seeing her womanhood before the end of the date if she did that.
