Principal Conner isn't happy

"We prefer our students to engage in wholesome after-school activities," Principal Conner said. "Obviously, porn will destroy your future careers."

"It's interesting that you say that," Karen said. "You know, of course, that Tanya's dad is a major Hollywood producer."

"Your point?"

"But he didn't start with big budget Hollywood productions. He started in the Valley doing porn shoots. He leveraged the connections he made there into agenting and then production in Hollywood."

"Not," Matt put in, "that we're admitting to doing porn. We're speaking hypothetically here."

"The school has a reputation to keep. Dr. Dyle might be... overzealous in his approach but still, students creating porn... it's disgusting."

Matt was watching Principal Conner carefully and wondered if she might not be protesting a little too much.

"Actually," he said, "and without admitting any personal, I think you'd find that the material produced by High School Hotties is artistic and creative... not at all the kind of purient entertainment that I fear you're thinking of. After all, Peninsula is a classy high school. I doubt that any of our students would be willing to become involved with something as crass as straight porn."

"You'd be surprised," she said. "Not all of our students live up to their parents' exemplary lifestyle."

Which was a laugh. From what Matt had seen of those parents' lifestyles, they involved the women trying desperately to hold onto their meal tickets and the men essentially flaunting their young hot mistresses and girlfriends... or trying to seduce their neighbors' daughters.

"I wish you'd check out the streaming service you seem intent on associating us with," Matt continued. "I think you'd agree that it's certainly not devoid of artistic merit." He'd done a little homework and was pretty sure that the definition of porn adopted by the Supreme Court ruled out any work that was of artistic merit.

"Well... I will be discussing this with the school district's attorneys. In the meantime, you should consider yourself suspended."

"Aren't we entitled to a formal justification of our suspension?" Karen asked. "I mean, we might consider ourselves suspended but our teachers might not and so we'd miss out on our right to an education."

Principal Conner sighed. "You actually want to attend classes."

"Of course," Karen said. "The only reason our parents moved us here was so we could attend classes at Peninsula."

"Maybe you should have thought of that before you engaged in pornography."

Matt leaned forward. "Principal Conner, I understand your concerns. Let me just cover a couple of facts you might not have considered. First, as I already pointed out, the producers of High School Hotties are engaged in an artistic pursuit. Second, the producers of High School Hotties face home situations that make it necessary for them to earn more money than can be made in traditional jobs open to high school hotties. Third, none of the participants in High School Hotties are under the age of eighteen, none of them are engaging in these activities during school hours or on school properties. Fourth, in no case do High School Hotties producers or actors claim or imply an endorsement of their activities by this or any other school. In fact, they deliberately place the context of their artistic entertainment in a fictional universe. While you have every right to discuss these alleged activities with the district attorneys, I really believe that they'll argue you have no legal grounds to stand on for punishing any students who may be involved in perfectly legal activities. Oh, also, if you suspend participants in this entertainment program, you may find that you don't have a football team for the fall semester."

Principal Conner bobbed her mouth open and closed a few times then shook her head. "You're suspended for the rest of the day. I'll notify you of formal charges, if any, by tomorrow morning. Now, I have a number of meetings to attend so I'd like you to get off the campus before I call the police to have you escorted off school grounds."

Matt stood. "Come on, Karen. Let's go home."
