How Does Catarina Use Her Advantage?

Escape Over the Counter

Chapter 4 by Nathaniel Keam Nathaniel Keam

Catarina knew instantly she had bitten off more than she could chew. She made a desperate bid for freedom across the counter. Her only option was to get out of the shop and call for help or this mad woman was about to tear her limb from limb.

She vaulted the counter and almost made it until she felt Maria tap her ankle. Catarina managed to put her hands out in time as she hit the shop floor, a shower of candy bars and mints following her. She wasted no time in scrambling to her feet and sprinting for the door.

Catarina reached out to grab the handle, but a great mass clattered into her, smashing her forehead against the glass. She groaned as Maria grabbed her by the back of her hair and slammed her head into the door again and again.

"Where do you think you're going? I'm not done with you."

"Eugh," Catarina managed to mumble.

Maria stopped her from slumping to the ground and threw her onto a large horizontal freezer, where she lay, massaging her head.

Her attacker had an evil grin on her face, a look of pure malice. Catarina was already seeing stars, and now Maria stood between her and the door. To her horror, she heard the distinct click of the door being locked from the inside.

"I think we should get some privacy, don't you? Wouldn't want anyone walking in on us."

Maria twiddled with the shutters and suddenly they were completely alone. No prying eyes would be able to see through the windows. The little shutter came down over the door to block any access. As far as anyone else knew, the store was closed for the evening.

Catarina gradually came to her senses and realised she would have to fight her way out of this. The consequences of losing to this crazy lady were incomprehensible. Who knew what she might have in store for her?
