Lily falls to the ground and begs

There she was, my horrible, disloyal ex-girlfriend. Lily's fiery red hair shone against the sunset, and piercing green eyes seemed to always look right through me. This being the first time I had seen her since the breakup, I had no idea how I'd be reacting when I finally saw her. To my eternal anger, my first thought when I saw her was "damn, she's beautiful."

She was a little bigger than me, taller with larger breasts and a wider waist. That just meant that whenever she wore my clothes, it hugged her body perfectly every time. I snapped out of it and looked away. "Lily", I said.

"Christy", she said back to me. The tone in her voice made me start. I snapped back to look at her, really look at her this time. Not just the idea of her I remembered. I blinked and saw before me a sad sight. Lily's hair was an absolute mess, no telling when it was last brushed. Her face was puffy and red, and her eyes even seemed to have less luster than usual.

"Jesus," I said to her.

"Christy, I... I..." She started, her voice quivering even more than before. Then she fell to her knees hard and started crying. "Christy I'm so sorry," she said in between sobs.

I sighed and looked around. I wasn't sure if Monica or Juliet were home, but I hoped not. I didn't want them to see this sight.

"I heard it all before, Lily. You don't know what happened, you were drinking and things got out of control, you didn't mean it, yadda yadda." I rolled my eyes. "I don't know what you want me to say to that."

"I know, I know," Lily sputtered out after a few more sobs. "I'm not here to ask for you back. I know I don't deserve that."

"Yeah," I told her, "You're here to pick up all your shit that you're lucky I didn't throw away."

"Yes, but you see... Um..." Lily took a deep breath, still on the ground. "I lost my scholarship last month, the university ran out of funds for the lacrosse team, and I got cut. I had to use up all of my money to pay for tuition, but then I couldn't pay for housing. The stress of it all, and I had no idea how to tell you, means I went to the bar and I well... you know. Right after, our um... fight... I got kicked out of my apartment with only my one suitcase and a backpack. Everything else got thrown away. I've been sleeping in the library, but security caught me last night and threatened me with probation if it happened again. And now I'm here. I've got nowhere else to go. I'm not asking you to take me back, but I just need a place to stay for a couple weeks or maybe a month. Just until I get some money saved up to get my own place again. And I know that's a lot, but I just have no where else to go, and I know I don't deserve it, but you were the only good thing in my life, and the only thing that made me happy, and now-

"Stop," I told her and scratched my head. "Jesus Christ," I exasperated. Really. Was this really happening. Why can't I just have a relatively clean break like everyone else? Why can't this just be the end and then we never see each other again until one of us checks twitter years later? We didn't have a spare bedroom, and of the three, mine had the most space to accommodate a guest. Lily had been around my apartment long enough that Monica and Juliet considered her a regular feature, no more than Mike anyway.

Oh my god, was I really considering this? I should just kick her to the curb and be done with it. Whatever happened to her next, was up to her. Not my problem anymore. Right?
