Amaterasu, from Ōkami

Video games could be as much a good source of material for the furry fandom as movies and cartoons. There were some video games that could offer some good material for the fandom to create and be fascinated over. One of them was a video game of Japanese origin (most of them were, to be honest) whose main’s character was a white wolf. The game’s name: Ōkami. A game that would later give birth to the sequel Ōkamiden.

It was a funny game for people to play in which they had control over “Amaterasu”, the main character, and controlled her as they fought demons and other dangerous entities in order to save the world. Your classic video game where you were a world-saving hero. However, to Josh (and others), the more interesting was not the premise, the mechanics or even the challenges, the most interesting was the female wolf main character.

It is hint in nearly the entire game that Amaterasu is female. After all, Amaterasu is the goddess of Japan. The spirits that she freed across the game referred to her as “mother to us all.” To Josh it seemed to be easy to deduce that Amaterasu was a female. Her nickname in the game was “Ammy”, for crying out loud (nothing against any men called Ammy as a pet name, of course).

Of course, as it is standard with most things that came into popular culture and, consequently, the internet, it was to be expected that it would soon be subjected to the (in)famous Rule 34. It was only a matter of time before pornographic fanart of the main character would start going around, and someone would consequently make Amaterasu into an anthro. Now, while she was not the most famous or most popular character among the furry fandom, she did had her fans, including Josh, who had played the game when it was remastered and relaunched for PS4 back in 2017.

So, he felt a rush of excitement when he saw that there was the picture of a wolf with red markings on her face among the characters. The name Amaterasu in there left little doubt.

“I’ll go for Amaterasu, please.” Josh said, and the picture was select. Soon, the selection menu opened like a curtain, and Fursona stood before him. Soon, she started to change, as her body became curvier and she became slightly shorter. Her features changed, becoming more canine, more wolf-like. Soon, she was a female wolf, and she got clothes added to herself. She was now wearing a pink dress with the setting sun printed on it. Then, color was add, and her fur became white, with black around her yellow eyes and on the tip of her brush-shaped tail. Finally, the markings appeared. The red markings that denoted her as not a mere wol,f but as a deity.

She was beautiful. That much Josh could honestly say just by looking at her. She opened her eyes, and she was now looking at the human that stood before her.

“So, it seems that I am your choice, young man.” She said rather solemnly, and Josh looked at her.

“Yeah, it seems so.” He said back, and she looked at him, almost as if she was evaluating him.

“So, you have the choices of performing a programmed scenario or trying a free experience.” Amaterasu said, as she looked at him. “Which one of those options strike you fancy?”
