What's next?
Lunch with Sam and Ally
Sitting down in my usual spot, I was surprised to find Liam absent. Usually, he beat me here.
“Where’s Liam?” I asked after exchanging greetings with the girls.
“Making up a test with Ms. Garret,” Sam said.
“Giving up lunch for that?”
“Either that or stay after school. He was bitching about it all fourth period.”
“Enough about that,” Ally said, cutting in. “You have a birthday coming up!”
“I do…” I confirmed cautiously.
“And?”
“And what?”
She rolled her eyes. “When is the party?”
“Ah. I don’t really do parties.”
Ally looked horrified. “Don’t do parties?” Rolling her head back, she groaned. “Of course you don’t. Both you and Liam are b-o-r-i-n-g!”
I glanced over at Sam. “We were talking with Liam about it yesterday. He said neither of you did the whole birthday party thing.”
“Big one-nine. One year before you turn into an old man,” Ally said with a teasing smile. She leaned forward, propping her elbows up on the table. “So. Wanna have a threesome with Sam and me?”
My eyes about popped out. She looked dead serious waiting for my answer. “Ally!” Sam said, looking at her girlfriend in horror.
“Oh shush. You always complain about me bringing guys to bed, but somehow always manage to get a load or two more than me in that tight pussy of yours.” Sam’s cheeks heated as she glared at Ally. “So? What about it?” she asked, turning her attention back to me.
Damn it, Liam, of all the times for him to be MIA…
Feeling the beginning of sweat on my forehead, I did my best to keep the anxiety off my face. “I appreciate the offer, but it wouldn’t feel right what with Liam—”
Ally frowned. “Liam? What does he have to do with this?”
I felt my mouth clench shut. Abort that and reverse. It was time to try another approach. “Again, thanks for the offer, but it doesn’t look like Sam is interested—”
“I mean, I’ll do it,” Sam said with a heavy sigh. “It is your birthday and all…”
Ally seized the moment to push. “See? She’s down. How about it?”
“Uhhh…” I needed a way to figure out how to shut her down gently. Turning down girls was still new to me, and Ally and Sam were friends. I didn’t know how to put her down gently, so I took another approach. Rubbing the back of my neck, I answered her by asking a question. “How do you two feel about Liam?”
Ally gave me a blank look as she processed my question. Sam glanced towards her girlfriend before looking back at me. “He’s a great friend. Same as you,” she answered with a tense smile.
“That’s all?”
When Sam went to answer, Ally interrupted her. “If you’re concerned about sleeping with us because of Liam, don’t be. We’ve had threesomes with several other guys now and—”
“We really like him,” Sam said in a soft voice. Even with the gentle tone, it seemed to overpower Ally’s response, instantly silencing her. “Ally is physically attracted to him, far more than I am, but we both share the same respect and feelings for him.”
“As more than a friend?”
Relaxing back in her chair, Ally’s gaze moved from Sam to me. “Sorry. Not going to answer that. I know you two are close, and I don’t want to put you in the position of telling—”
“Yes.”
“Sam!”
“Wait, if you two care…”
“Why haven’t we asked him out?” Sam asked with a small smile. “Blame her.”
Crossing her arms, Ally rolled her eyes. “You fuck them too.”
Sam ignored her girlfriend as she focused on me. “I don’t know how much you know about us already, but Ally and I are in an exclusive relationship.”
“For girls,” Ally clarified.
“My interest resides almost completely in women. Guys… don’t excite me,” Sam continued. “Ally, on the other hand, goes both ways.”
“Guys are fun, but girls…” Ally looked over at Sam and they shared a smile. I never once doubted the two weren’t in a loving relationship. That was a special look that you didn’t see just anywhere. “Anyways!” she said as her head swung back towards me. “I love Sam and all, but I wanted to try it with guys too. Even though Sam wasn’t interested, I pushed her to give it a try.”
“Which is where Liam came in,” Sam said, taking over. “We both found him attractive, and he wasn’t as experienced as most men of his caliber.”
“Originally, we were just going to fuck him a few times and move on, but turns out we all had a lot in common.”
“So our purely physical relationship has evolved to what it is today,” Sam finished.
Scratching my cheek, I looked from one to the other. “So… why did you two start sleeping with other guys?”
“Again, blame her,” Sam said with a pointed look at Ally.
She made a pouting face. “What? It was a shame to try only one cock. We need more data points to compare!” Her expression turned serious. “But for real. Liam is a special guy to us. Sam made it clear that when we bring him in, that’s it. So… before we ask him if he is interested in something serious with us, I wanted to play around a bit longer.”
“And in our relationship, any guy she sleeps with, I sleep with.”
Ally grinned. “Still using that excuse? It’s okay to admit you want a nice, hard cock up in you from time to time.”
Shaking her head, Sam looked at me. “If you don’t mind, please don’t mention any of this to Liam. I know you two are close, but this is something we want to tell him when we are ready.”
I rubbed my chin. “I get it, but I really think you should talk to him about this. He likes you two a lot, and he’s a bit lost since you started sleeping with other guys.” They both shared a concerned look. “He’s not jealous or anything. Liam just mentioned he thought he was getting close to you two then suddenly found himself back on the outside.”
“I see,” Sam said with a contemplative look. “Might be a good idea to at least talk to him. Let him know—”
“We should have a foursome!” Ally said with a laugh.
“So this is what you talk about over here.” The familiar voice sent a chill down my back as I whipped around. Kaylee was standing there, arms crossed as her eyes bored down into me.
“K-Kaylee! What are you doing here?” I asked. Of all the times for her to come over, it had to be at the worst possible time.
“What, I can’t sit over here with my boyfriend?” she asked, looking at Ally. She was a hard read, a placid look on her face.
Sam had a diplomatic smile on her face. “Not at all. You are more than welcome to join us! I’m Sam, and this is my girlfriend—”
“Ally,” Ally said with an almost cold tone, eyes never leaving Kaylee.
“Kaylee.” She took the empty seat next to me where Liam usually sat. “So… What were you talking about?”
I opened my mouth to speak, but Ally beat me to it. “Sam and I were asking Scott if he wanted a birthday threesome.”
“Oh?” she said in a flat voice, head turning slightly my way. I was a sweating mess. Really, Ally? Read the room!
“A-a joke,” I managed, chuckling nervously.
“Dead serious. Been wanting to take him for a ride ever since we met. Experience what all the whispers are about. Would have finally gotten my way too until you came in and ruined all that hard work.”
Both women stared at each other. Each heartbeat was a sledgehammer to my chest. It seemed both were about to lunge at the other and start ripping hair and screaming at each other. I was at a complete loss. Why the hell was this happening?
Suddenly, both broke out into laughter at once. Even Sam had an amused smile as she watched it all in silence.
“Oh my god. Your expression!” Ally said, barely getting it out between laughs. “Looked like you were going to have a heart attack.”
I think my jaw was stuck open. Kaylee gave me a light push with her shoulder, laughing. “Messing with you will never get old.”
“Y-your not mad?”
Her head tilted slightly, catching her breath. “Mad? What for?” I glanced towards Sam and Ally. “The threesome? Were you serious about that?” she asked, her attention moving to Ally.
“If he wants to. Sam said it was okay, and I wasn’t lying about wanting to experience what all the fuss was about.”
“You know that’s all bullshit, right?” Kaylee said with an amused smile.
“Well, duh,” she said with an eye roll. “But it’s obviously good enough to keep you interested, so I figure it can’t be all that bad.”
Kaylee leaned forward against the table. “Actually, I’ve been wanting to have one myself. Maybe you can be our third?”
Ally gave her a polite smile but shook her head. “As hot as that sounds, I’m going to have to pass on that.” She glanced over at Sam, giving her a big smile. “We’re a bit of a package deal.”
That bit of news didn’t even faze Kaylee. “A foursome then? Never really thought about sharing a guy with two other girls but…” There was a specific type of look she gave the two girls. It wasn’t lewd, just appreciative of another’s appearance.
“Sorry,” Sam said, genuinely looking apologetic about it. “I may tolerate some guys here and there, but other girls are off-limits.” She had a grin that reminded me of Kaylee for a moment. “Even one as hot as you.”
Leaning back in her seat, Kaylee shrugged off the rejection. “No worries. I completely understand. Just thought I’d ask. Scott really likes you two, so I figured he would be more willing to try if one of you were our third.”
“Well, we like him too,” Sam said with a warm smile.
“Even if he isn’t having a party,” Ally added giving me a cross look.
“Right! I tried, even offering to set everything up for him…” Kaylee huffed, giving a big shrug in the process.
“FREEDOM!” Liam’s sudden voice made me jump as he walked up behind me, clapping me on the shoulders and giving me a shake. Looking over my shoulder, I found him reacting to the sight of Kaylee sitting beside me. “Kaylee,” he said with a nod as he took the seat on the other side of me. “Ladies. What did I miss?”
Ally was the first to speak. “Asking Scott if he wanted a birthday threesome with Sam and me,” she said as she propped up her head with her arm. I wasn’t sure how to read his reaction to that bit of news. Sighing, she shook her head. “Can you believe he turned it down though? I guess once you have someone on Kaylee’s level, us normal people aren’t that appealing.”
I saw Liam’s shoulders drop slightly. He glanced over at me with a smile that seemed forced. “Aw, man. You don’t know what you’re missing.” I’ve known him long enough to know when he was forcing himself to sound upbeat, and he was doing his best to appear cool with it. I could understand where he was coming from. I suppose I could tolerate other guys with Kaylee, but I remember all too well the feeling I had when I was checking if Liam was on Kaylee’s Profile.
“Right? Which is why I really think—“
“Ally.” She went silent at the sound of her girlfriend’s voice. She smiled at me. “Don’t let her pressure you into doing anything you don’t want to do.”
Her girlfriend pouted, puffing out her cheeks. “That’s only because _you _don’t want to do it.”
A random idea sprouted into being as I smiled. “There is something you can do that I would appreciate a lot. See, my parents can’t bake for shit. It’s the Hoffman curse that has passed down to both Paige and me as well. I would really, really, like a cake that is edible this year. Elisabeth was the only one in the family who could bake, which means I haven’t had a decent cake since she moved out.”
“I’d be more than happy to bake you a cake, but I’m guessing that would be something your girlfriend would want to do,” Sam said with a knowing smile.
Kaylee’s eyes grew slightly larger as she shook her head, waving her hands in front of her for emphasis. “Oh no. You don’t want me anywhere near an oven. My dad tried many times to teach me the culinary arts before banishing me from the kitchen forever.” She wiped away a fake tear. “It was the most traumatic moment of my life. My childhood dream of being a world-class pastry chef… ruined.”
I snorted and rolled my eyes as laughter filled the air.
The conversation moved on to what kind of cake I enjoyed, and after a few minutes, it was decided that Sam would bake me a chocolate birthday cake. From there, we talked about random things as they evolved naturally. Much to my surprise, Kaylee fit in like this was the most natural thing. Hearing her laugh at my jokes I would never dare to make at the other table made me feel… like me. I was in my element. This was my space, with my friends, and my interests, and Kaylee had inserted herself as if she had been here the entire time. From her smiles to her joyful laughs, she was genuinely enjoying herself.
By the end of lunch, I felt lighter than I ever had. Relaxed in a way I couldn’t put my finger on. Something had changed. A fear I didn’t recognize I carried until it was missing. This entire time, I was worried that there would always be a gulf between my interests and Kaylee. Now, I saw that wasn’t the case. She might not have gotten all the references we made, but she enjoyed herself anyways and thrived in an environment that was outside her normal one.
I knew this wasn’t in her interest range, but she was here anyways, laughing and enjoying herself. Not because she necessarily wanted to, but because of me. This was something I enjoyed and because it was important to me, it was important to her as well.
In the grand scheme of things, this might have been a small thing. A blip in the balance between Kaylee and me. It was enough though. Proof that Kaylee was changing and that she was serious about me and our relationship.
It was something I needed more than I realized.
This also meant that I needed to put in my fair share of effort as well. Kaylee seemed to really be pushing that threesome. Having another guy was too much at this stage of things, but maybe, just maybe…
Well. It was something to consider.
