Childhood friends

You arrive at the school gate, looking for Vera discreetly, she must look very dumb with pigtails, you grin slightly. However you get startled as a hand lands on your shoulder, you turn around, and you can see a smiling face greeting you.

"Hey, Michael, so you're transferring in today?"

"Yeah, man, I'd like to be in your class though, it'll be weird to be older than everyone." You can hear some sadness in his voice.

"Don't worry bro, I'm hear for you if you need it." You try to be kind to him, he deserves it.

"John! You could have waited for me!" You see Kana running in the distance. Michael looks at her with interest.

"Hum... Hi?" She says to him.

"Y-yeah, hi." She waits for a second but she finds the situation awkward and leaves.

"See you later, John!" She tells you.

You look at Michael, seemingly shocked.

"Are you serious man? She's my girlfriend!" He looks at you with confusion.

"What are you saying man? It's Kana right? Why didn't you tell me she was back in town?"

"What? You already know her?" He looks at you even more confused.

"Bro, your memory is that bad? I mean she changed style and everything but she's clearly the same girl..."

It's your turn not to answer, you already knew her? You guess you might have forgotten.

"Dude, you're going out with your childhood friend and you didn't know?" He laughs wholeheartedly.

"So we were friends in the past too?"

"Yeah man, something like six or seven years ago she moved away... Now that I think about it she was kinda trying to get your attention back then."

"I-I don't remember..." You struggle to find a memory of Kana before the last two weeks, Michael is kind of lucky in that regard, he has a near-perfect memory so he could be rewatching moments from the past while talking to you.

"She wasn't a goth back then, think more book-hungry shy girl, oh she liked to sing a lot too. Especially when you were here. I guess it was her way of seducing you." He laughs again while scratching his head.

You kind of remember, it's very blurred but you might've had a friend who liked to sing a long time ago...

Your thoughts are broken by the alarm announcing the beginning of classes, Micheal sighs.

"Guess we'll talk about this more later then... See ya bro!"

You arrive at your class in a hurry, hopefully, the teacher isn't here yet. You sit down and throw a glance behind you, Vera is here with very noticeable pigtails that make her look childish. That's your opinion though and it seems that since yesterday, she got even more attention, even some from guys now.

She's definitely smiling and enjoying herself while talking to her new friends. Once again you're totally incompetent at using your powers, that's what you would think if you weren't patient, a few more days and she'll be corrupt and drop out of school, that'll teach her!
