What's next?
Kaylee's Perfect Relationship
“This is just a fantasy thing, right? Not saying this is actually what I expect to happen.” I nodded. She took a deep breath and finally started. “College is a time of exploration and discovery. For both of us. Mom had some wild stories of her college days, and I guess I want to have that experience too.” She met my eye before looking down at her lap. “Mom had multiple boyfriends through college. Multiple as in at-the-same-time boyfriends. Obviously, that isn’t me but… Casual relationships centered around sex is something that I’ve thought about. Something a step beyond friendship, but nothing close to a serious relationship.”
“You want sex friends.”
“Right. I was thinking four or five guys and a girl or two that are consistently good in bed I could rotate through. Then there are the people that catch my eye…”
She cleared her throat, still not looking at me. “Orgies are something I definitely want to try. Mom loves them, and it sounds like something I’d enjoy. Of course, I’m doing all this while maintaining a perfect GPA.”
Despite the squeamish pictures in my mind, I couldn’t help but chuckle at that. “Obviously.”
“Obviously,” she said with a smile. My chuckle seemed to have soothed her nerves. She seemed more relaxed as she continued. “I mean, it’s mostly average college stuff. Live away from home for the first time. Stress out over grades and classes. Screw as many people as you possibly can. Drink a shitload of alcohol…” She shrugged. “Have fun like everyone else I guess.”
“And where am I in all of this?” She gave me a confused look. “Seems to me like you’ll have a pretty full schedule with all those partners.”
She blushed. “Well, you’re there too of course. I figure there will be a lot of threesomes—and not just me bringing another guy to bed.” She wore a proud grin. “I’ll make sure you definitely won’t want for women. We can work on getting your unique partner count up to a comfortable level since you had a bit of a late start. Beyond that, we can find other couples on campus and get some experience doing partner swaps since that is something I intend to continue even after getting married. Threesomes, foursomes, orgies… there are plenty of things we can do together.”
That sounded pretty extreme for someone like me. It also completely revolved around sex, highlighting once more what Kaylee found as a priority. I didn’t say that aloud though, nodding slowly.
“Beyond that… I don’t know. College will hopefully get some of the wildness out of my system and I can focus on stability. There is the career to think about. After a few years to get that going, I’ll probably want to start working on a family. It usually takes five years to have the first one, but I figure Mom won’t want to wait that long and send me to one of those posh breeder resorts packed with A-rankers. Maybe Aunt Renee can pull some strings and line up an S-rank.” She shrugged. “Thinking two or three kids, working to support them, help the husband raise them…” Her eyes lingered on me for that last part. “Normal stuff.”
“Still expecting your future husband-to-be to, ‘defer to the needs of his wife?’ Taking care of the kids while you take care of… other things?”
Kaylee was flustered by my question. “Okay, so I might have gained some life experience that shifted my views on that particular subject.”
“Oh?”
“I still think it’s a good idea having the husband raising the kids. The fidelity part though… I’m willing to entertain the idea that maybe I shouldn’t be the only one able to have a little fun here and there. Still nowhere on the level of freedom he had before marriage of course. It would defeat the purpose of marriage if nothing changed. At the very least, we can trade spouses and have foursomes with some other couples on a regular basis like my parents.”
“What about you?” She knew what I was asking. Kaylee was willing to restrict her husband's sexual encounters, but what about herself?
Her eyes were as evasive as her answer. “Kids don’t make themselves.”
“So you have two kids and decide that’s enough.”
“Scott.”
“Only asking.”
She was silent for a moment, simply looking at me. “No, I wouldn’t stop. Call me a hypocrite if you want, but it’s weird thinking about only sleeping with one person—even if that person is you.”
“You did that for the last month.”
“Yeah, and look how that turned out. It was unnatural, weird, and almost drove me crazy. I’m not saying it’s going to be like college, but I’m not going to hold myself back either. If a guy catches my attention and he's interested, I’m going to sleep with him.”
Was sleeping with only me really that bad? I had no issues with her being the only one I’d been with. Well, I suppose that was two now with Kayla. Yet another thing I never had the time to properly process. I shoved that thought back into the dark corner it crawled out from, hoping to forget about it a little while longer.
The silence continued to grow as Kaylee studied me. I went back to stirring my melted shake.
“Scott.” The way she said my name caused the hair on the back of my neck to rise. It sounded normal enough, but there was something about it that instantly had me on edge. “I’ve uh… been meaning to ask this for a while now.” She had trouble meeting my eye as her pause lengthened. Finally, she looked up to meet my eye. “Are you a monogamist?” My world froze, the only thing moving was the thudding of my heart. “It’s always struck me as odd that you never made a move on any of the girls. I mean, it made sense you never tried anything with me. Same reason I never tried either. Fear of rejection is pretty powerful when you actually like the person. Abby, Ellie, or Sarah though? You are in a prime position to at least try to get them in bed. Probably would succeed too. Ellie for sure, and Abby and Sarah have talked about it a few times…”
My laugh was only to cover the insane amount of pressure I was feeling. “You flatter me. Please. I had no chance with those girls. I could barely look any of them in the eye, let alone do something like that.”
“Then what about others? Faith has a massive crush on you. I’m sure there are other girls who would be more than happy for a quick roll in the sack.”
“The same reason why we use condoms,” I said, wincing as my dad’s paranoia of phones came to mind.
“Faith always makes her partners use condoms regardless of their rank. There are people out there with odd tastes.”
“Would you have felt the same way if I asked to use one the night you asked me out?”
“Considering I had a load of Adam’s cum in me at the time? Not really. Some guys don’t like going second because of that. Personally, I don’t see why it’s such a big deal. Guys seem perfectly fine hopping from multiple girls, but a little cum from another guy freaks them out?” She shook her head. “That aside… You never answered my question.”
All I could think of was the conversation with my sister. How she reacted to my sister’s accusation that she’d gone monogamous. It made it perfectly clear what she thought of the idea, and I was terrified of what that meant to people who leaned that way.
“Of course not. I’m just… cautious.”
Her eyes lingered on me. “Ellie, Sarah, or Abby.”
“Huh?”
“Ellie, Sarah, or Abby. Which one do you want to sleep with?”
“What does that—”
“It’s a simple question.” I frowned and said nothing. “What about Faith?” I remained silent. “Come on. You have to have thought about this.”
“Abby.” Frankly, Ellie frightened me and Sarah was dating Sean now, so that was off the table. Faith was probably the best option, but she was my best friend’s sister, which would make things weird. Still, as hot as Abby was, I wasn’t interested. Well, that wasn’t completely true. There might have been a fantasy or two, but nothing on the level of what I felt towards Kaylee. I suppose I lacked drive instead of interest. I was perfectly happy with Kaylee and felt no need to expand or explore beyond her.
I wasn’t sure where she was going with this until I saw her on her phone. My eyes went wide as she spoke, “Hey, girl! Let me put you on speaker for a second.” Holding out her phone, she stared right at me. “I need you to answer a question for me.”
“Sure,” Abby’s voice said. I could already feel the blood running from my face.
“You wanna fuck Scott?”
A second pause. “Wow. That came out of nowhere. Now?”
Kaylee’s eyes never left me. “Sure.”
“What’s wrong? You always shot down Ellie when she begged for the chance.”
“Not interested?”
“I never said that. Just wondering why you had the sudden change of heart.”
“This is more… proving a point.”
Abby chuckled. “Why n—”
She never got to finish as I pressed the red button on the phone, ending the call. Kaylee had called my bluff and I’d flinched.
“Not feeling Abby? Let me give Ellie a call. She’s been begging me for months now.”
“Stop,” I whispered as she scrolled down her contacts. “Stop,” I said louder when she found Ellie’s name and prepared to call her.
“Going to tell me why you lied to me just now?” Her tone was as frigid as the air outside. Thankfully, she lowered her phone. It started ringing as Abby called her back, but she quickly silenced it.
I struggled to put together the words. “Fear?”
Kaylee’s hard expression softened slightly. “Of what?”
“You. What you would think about me.” She frowned. “I remember how you reacted when Paige brought it up.”
“She called me one. That’s what I was reacting to.”
“It’s weird only thinking about sleeping with one person though,” I repeated. A reminder of something she had said only a few minutes ago.
Opening her mouth to respond, nothing came out. Slowly, her mouth closed and she settled back into her seat. “I don’t hate them,” she said, finally breaking the silence. “I don’t agree with them and find their beliefs weird, but I don’t hate them.” She looked out the front window. “Wow. This explains so much about you.”
“Look, Kaylee—”
“I’m not mad,” she said, turning her head to look at me again. “I really don’t know what to think right now. You slept with Kayla.” There wasn’t any anger or judgment in her voice, only a statement of fact.
“Hard not to with you literally pushing me at her.”
“You told me you enjoyed it.”
“I did.”
“But you’re a monogamist.”
“I’m not—Look, just because I’m not actively trying to screw every hot girl that passes in front of me doesn’t mean I’m a monogamist. I’m… not really sure what I am. You have had a lot of time to experience things and figure things out. This is all still new to me. I had sex for the first time like, two months ago. I'm barely confident in my skills around you and now you're talking about bringing in others.”
She was quiet for a moment. “Now that I think on it, I don’t know much about your family—other than Paige of course. Surely you’ve had some exposure to various things.”
I shook my head. “Dad is—” I caught myself. Even if I trusted her and it wouldn’t have gotten him in trouble if people found out, Dad’s monogamy belief wasn’t my secret to share. “Conservative,” I said, managing not to make it sound awkward in the process. “Sex stuff was never really talked about, and certainly never put on display. Paige was only allowed to bring boys home last year and that was only after a rather nasty fight between my parents over it.” I shifted in place, hanging my head. “I’m going to be honest, Kaylee. Sex scares me. About the time a normal boy starts getting an interest in it, I… had my conversation with my dad about it. Since then, sex has been something I’ve been terrified of. It’s been getting better since meeting you, but it is still there, manifesting in one way or another. So all this talk about me joining you in stuff makes me uncomfortable.”
“Jesus,” Kaylee muttered. “What the hell did he tell you?”
“What I needed to hear.”
Reaching out, she rested her hand on my leg. “Scott.” Her voice was gentle, eyes full of kindness and care. “No one has to be afraid of sex. It’s natural, even fun,” she said with a small smile before returning to a serious expression. “I don’t know what your dad told you, but he’s wrong.”
“He wasn’t though.” My eyes fell on her phone once again and I was reminded to be careful of my words. “I need to be cautious at all times.”
“If it’s because you’re fer—”
“Don’t,” I interrupted, giving her a firm look.
“Condoms exist. I have a prescription and we have a good excuse for why you need to wear them. Kayla may have pushed back, but she didn’t question why I had you wear a condom. It can just be a quirk of our relationship.” Her eyes met mine as if desperately trying to make me see things her way. “You can have sex with other people. You can even enjoy it. I know you did with Kayla.”
I sighed. “I get that. All I know is that I am completely satisfied with what I have with you and have no desire to go beyond that.”
“But are you open to?”
“Huh?”
“Go beyond just me.”
“Does that matter?”
“Yes.”
I frowned, feeling my heart flutter at the seriousness of her voice. “Doesn’t this fit into your plans though? The husband that sits around at home with the kids while you have fun with other guys?”
“Completely negating all the fun we are supposed to have before that.” I noticed two things here. One, she acted as though me playing the husband role was expected. Two, she didn’t deny having that expectation.
“Nothing is stopping you from doing that.”
“Maybe not, but I expected to do all that stuff with you. I want to do that stuff with you. One of the reasons why I’ve never had a proper threesome is because I wanted my first one to be with someone special. I was tempted with Zoe more than a few times, and I certainly had the opportunity.”
“So why didn’t you?”
“It didn’t feel right. I love Zoe, but I always knew that love would never expand into anything larger than it was. With you though, I feel like it’s finally time to start moving forward. Exploring new things,” she said, staring straight at me. “I love sex. It’s important to me and works as a fantastic way to relieve stress. You have your superhero and action movies to look forward to, I look forward to sex with all the hot guys and girls I haven’t met yet. That isn’t likely to change any more than you suddenly stop liking those movies.”
“You have zero interest in those movies.”
“I wouldn’t say zero interest. And that doesn’t stop me from going to them with you,” she said with a smile. “Or did you forget which movie you took me to on our last date?” I opened my mouth to retort that when I realized she was right. I had totally taken her to the new Jamie Bond movie. She didn’t gloat for being right, only giving me a patient smile. “I enjoyed the movie and it's always fun listening to you gush over all the lore and special effects after. I’m not asking you to suddenly start chasing girls. Actually, I’d prefer it if you didn’t. All I’m asking is you consider some things in the future.”
I was silent for a moment, thinking. “Like what?”
“A threesome is a good start.” I frowned. “I was serious when I asked if you would be interested in one with Kayla.”
“You said I wasn’t ready to handle multiple girls yet.”
She chuckled. “I think you can fumble through one night and we both know you are more than capable of pushing Kayla’s buttons.”
Sighing, I rubbed the back of my neck. “I don’t know, Kaylee…”
“Let’s step back for a second. Are you open to sleeping with other girls?”
Ugh. Why was she making this so difficult? What was wrong with things like they were?
“I suppose?” It was the best I could give her.
“I’ll take that.” She took a deep breath. “There are two things I promised myself. One, I’m not going to think about marriage until I hit at least three hundred unique partners. Mom was well above that when she married Dad, but I feel like that's a good number for me.”
I wanted to be shocked by that, but it fell in line with what I knew about Kaylee. I figured she’d hit that by the end of college. Four or five years of school at fifty partners a year… Easy for someone like her. Anyone really. College was eighty percent hooking up and twenty percent academics. It was one of the reasons why the government made it free. Nothing the PPD loved more than packing a whole bunch of young, horny people together. Schools encouraged the behavior too. Dorms were all coed and they tried to put at least one guy in each room with multiple girls. They didn’t separate bathrooms and shower areas by sex either. The entire thing was set up to get young people in the habit of screwing frequently and with a large number of people.
It also meant that the rules we established were going to undergo a massive overhaul once we graduated.
“And the second?”
She seemed surprised at my neutral reaction to her statement. “The second…” She trailed off, eyes never leaving mine. “Well… You may or may not figure that out soon.”
“Huh?”
“It’s something important to me, but I’m currently reevaluating things.”
“Now I’m curious.”
“As I said, it’s something you may find out… or not.” Running a hand through her hair, she let out a breath. “Look, I’m not expecting you to have everything figured out right away, but you need to be thinking about some of this stuff. Dating me means there is going to be a lot of sex. Sex with me. Sex with other people. Me having sex with other people. I’m willing to take things slow and let you figure things out, but I can’t wait forever. First thing you should do is fill out your damn Profile. Put some thought into it. Really think on it. What are some things you want to try? How about willing to try? What are some things that are absolutely off the table? I need to know what you are comfortable with. You never tell me anything, and all that ends up with is me hurting you. I hate it.”
Setting her shake in the cup holder, she took hold of the steering wheel and got comfortable in her seat. “I’m trying, Scott. I know I’m not perfect, but I really am trying.”
I settled back into my seat, looking down at the mess in my cup. “I know.”
