Chapter 6 by Adger
What you gonna do?
Keep walking
If one of them wants a dance they’ll ask. You continue walking towards the bar to get a drink. A shot usually makes the shift go much better.
You like your job but it can be a lot of bullshit depending on the customers and dancers who swing by. Last week Bethany’s ex showed up with a knife in the middle of your shift. He didn’t make it far thanks to the bouncers, but it did shut down the club for a few hours as cops got statements.
You order your shot from Mike the bartender. Mike’s a pretty cool dude. He’s just a Healy chill ex-Marine, but if according to him once a marine always a marine. He told you about a few of his tours once. He never talks about what he did only funny shit he saw happen to other people. You’d have guessed that he never saw combat until the Fourth of July a few weeks ago. One second he was making a monito for one of the girls and the next he was high crawling back to the kitchen yelling about tangos. One of the managers thought it would be a good idea to throw a fire cracker for the girls shows that night. Thought it would be festive. They didn’t pull that shit twice luckily since several customers had a similar reaction to Mike. The base is just up the road after all.
Taking the shot Mike brought you, with a grunt of recognition and a nod, you were about to turn around, but then you felt a tap on your shoulder.
