Call her out

Mark turned to face Jade as she started to walk away from him. “What’s your problem? She’s just doing her job, why do you have to make things so difficult?” he spoke loudly enough for her to here.

In an instant, Jade stopped and turned her head around to glare back at Mark. She was acting as if he had just told her to go fuck herself or something. It’s exactly what he was thinking but he chose not to use those words.

Jade walked back to them, “You want to take that back bitch boy…”

Mark wasn’t going to stand down to the blonde girl. He had way more confidence from when he started his freshman year, this chick wasn’t going to scare him at all.

“Nope.”

“Fuck you!” Jade responded.

Hearing that things were getting a lot more vocal and tense, Matt got out of his chair and moved towards them all. He quickly walked up to them, eyeing of Mark specifically.

“Got a fucking problem do you Mark?” he half raised his voice at him.

Mark didn’t flinch, “Just tell your little friend here to show a bit more respect next time.”

The fact that he said ‘little friend’, was something that bugged them both. Cassidy on the other hand was loving that Mark was standing up for her so much. She stood quietly behind the counter, wondering how much this would escalate to.

“Watch it pal,” Matt responded in a threat.

“You can hit me. Actually I encourage you too. But just remember… I’m on the football team now and when you hit me, there’s a whole lot of guys who would be more than happy to beat up a little punk like you,” he said boldly and confidently.

Mark loved that he now pretty much had his own protection from the team. Someone like Matt was never going to risk doing anything that would result in a run-in with the football boys.

“Come on Jade, let’s get out of this dump,” he said, grabbing the blonde by the hand and leading her out of the cafe.

Cassidy watched on, feeling a lot better about herself after the two stormed out. She may have feelings for Matt still to this day but her friendship with her former roommate was all but done.

Mark looked at Cassidy to see her smiling back at him. However, it looked a little more than just a smile, more of a flirty one, a bit of a smirk.

What was she thinking, he thought.

Cassidy looked around, checking to see who was around. She then suddenly called out, “Hey Marie! Do you mind taking over here while I take my break!” she called out so that the other server out the back could hear her.

Marie came from the back door and nodded after a big yawn. Cassidy gave Mark a little head nod to follow her as she went to the side, towards the staff only back door.

Mark was confused at first. She didn’t use any words, just head signals. Did she really want him to come to their break room, and if so, why?
