A bad email

Alexa was looking at her phone when suddenly an email notification from her company. She clicked on it, thinking it was probably just an update on her presentation but instead…

Dear Ms Johnson,

We have received notice of a budget cut from our Chief Financial Officer, and because of that we have as a company decided to cut both the presentation and your employment. We will not be financing your trip back, but we wish you the best of luck with your future endeavors. We also received a disturbing email that we hope isn’t true or is some kind of joke. See attached the image that we were sent and you can maybe understand why we wish to cut ties with that sort of image.

Alexa stared in shock and horror not even wanting to click on the attachment but did as her eyes widened. She couldn’t speak or do anything as she stood there, petrified and embarrassed.

“Alexa? You in here?” She heard Carol call out as she entered the room.

Alexa shook her head unable to even speak as she handed Carol her phone. Carol looked at Alexa and then looked at her phone, read the email, and looked at the attachment. “Where did they even get this?” Carol said at first.

It was a photo of Alexa asleep on the plane, thumb in her mouth, diaper on display and wet. Alexa curled in a ball, tears starting to hit her. “I don’t understand…” she sniffled.

Carol rushed over and pulled Alexa to the bed, cradling her tightly against her chest. Alexa buried her face as her shoulders rose and fell. “I don’t know where they got this from. But the way they handled this was so unprofessional, I’m astounded.”

“I don’t have a job…” Alexa cried.

“Shhh shh, it’s going to be okay,” Carol whispered. “I’m going to figure this out.”

“They think I’m some freak,” Alexa cried.

“No… shhh they don’t even know if it’s real,” Carol said.

“But they think it is… and it is… so…” Alexa sniffled. “And I’m stuck. I can’t go back. I don’t have money to fly to N-New York. I… I was paid for… round t-trip…”

“Hey, you can stay here as long as you need. You don’t need to worry about being on your own,” Carol said.

“B-but…”

“Maybe this is for the better,” Carol said. “I can help you. We can have fun. You can relax. Not have to stress about work… you can be like… a kid again. Maybe talk to that cute boy… move on… move forward.”

Alexa squirmed at the idea of being a kid again… did she really want to do that? Alexa took several minutes to cry as Carol held her closely, comforting her as she did.
