A carnival

“The summer carnival, it opened a few weeks ago and Robin had a couple tickets lying around, and thought we’d enjoy it. Plus it’s less awkward than meeting for coffee or dinner.” Greg said.

“...Yeah,” Kyle said, shifting uncomfortably in his seat. “Less awkward…”

“So, tell me about yourself. Robin only gave me the highlights, you’re cousins with Sami and Amy, right?”

“Yeah, but we’ve never met, it’s weird. I’m living in her room, but I don't know her.”

“I’ll bet. I only met them one time, but they seemed nice. What do you like to do for fun? Apart from sunbathing and shopping, sorry, Robin showed me your social media pics.”

“Oh, you know…” Kyle struggled to think of anything, given that he hadn’t had any fun since he got involved in this mess. The only time he felt a modicum of fun was the first day as ‘Kylie’ while the girls were busy interrogating Sam about him. “Video games…”

“Really, which ones? I’m a bit of a gamer myself, when I’m not busy, of course.” Greg said. “Which one are you best at?”

“I can kick my brother’s ass at Immortal Warfare any day.” Kyle replied.

“Really? Maybe I can take you on someday,” Greg said.

“Maybe, but uh… what about you? Robin didn’t tell me anything about you,” Kyle said, hoping to shift the conversation away from himself.

“Me? Well, I keep myself pretty busy, I lifeguard during the summers, and I’m on the basketball team during the school year.” Greg said.

“Makes sense, cause you’re so tall…” Kyle noted.

The rest of the car ride went about that way, with Kyle taking care to not act too disinterested as Greg went on about himself.
