Call Jackie

You decide to call some of your new friends to see if anyone can take you in.

You met Jackie early in this adventure so she's the first one you call.

"Uh, sorry," she says.

"Oh." You'd been certain she would be able to take you in, at least for a day or two.

"My roommate would go nuts," she explains. "She had a bad experience with a roommate's boyfriend **** her while her roommate slept. I think you can understand why that would make her **** to have some stranger moving in with her."

"Yeah."

"I can, maybe, lend you some money for a motel."

You really don't want to go back to the no-tell motel where you started this adventure. "It's fine. I'll think of something. But I appreciate the offer."

"Okay. Just call me if you change your mind. And this doesn't mean you're off the hook for self-defense training."

"Got it."

Your call to Lupe is even more disappointing.

"Do you want my father to kill you?"

"Uh, no."

"Well, he would. You move in here and you're either dead or you'd have to marry me. And I'm not ready to get married so... you're dead."

"Yeah, but--"

"D.E.A.D.," she repeats with finality. "I'll call around and see if anyone has a garage where you can crash for a while."

"Uh, okay."

"But don't count on it. Because all my friends are girls and their dads would kill you, also."

"Got it."
