The date begins

It wasn't anything fancy tonight, they had made it passed the first few dates so the atmosphere and expectations were different now. She still wanted to dress nice, but not immaculately as she tried to on the first couple of dates, first impressions and all. The plan was to go to the pub for a meal and a drink or 2, before back to his for a film or whatever caught their fancy.

She'd always liked getting to this stage of a relationship. She always felt like the first stage was always a little too much like walking on egg shells, but now their conversations in person were much like the ones they had online. They were relaxed in each others company so she was very much looking forward to what the evening held, although perhaps she was a little bit nervous about how the night may end.

She showed up still a little early for the date, allowing her to find a nice table and order herself a drink – a white wine – before Zack showed up and she waved him over. He was wearing a simple t shirt and jeans while she had chosen a flowery blouse with a skirt, no heels though. He gave her a quick kiss hello before they sat down and got comfy, opening their menus.

Zack was a little nervous, actually more than he had been on any other date apart from that very first one. While he was hoping to get to this point, after that first encounter he'd been fearing it might never happen. It was just his nature, when it came to things like this he ended up mostly on the skeptical side, thinking more if you go in with no expectations you can never be disappointed but you can be surprised.

Wanting to bring it up as soon as he could, then letting the evening go from there he just had a simple question, trying to seem casual as he asked it with his drink in hand.

“Are you sure that's what you want to do tonight? There's still time to back out” then he sipped, yes that sip he thought would make him seem perfectly calm and not at all like the entire night rested on her response.
