slaver ambush

Night came rather uneventfully, Shiro finding a good open area near the forest to pitch camp. The simple tent worked for the time, keeping Masa’s leash tied to a simple stake as a show. It was well within reach of the tent in length, and she would let her sleep inside in the end of the day.

It might not come though, as Shiro and her sit by the fire. Shiro sharpened her sword, but stopped after a moment and put her stone away.
“What is it?” Masa said, unaware of anything amiss.
“Intruders,” she said quietly, visibly tensing but unmoving. She turned suddenly and sliced an arrow out of the air, moving in quickly towards the nearby trees and slashing the archer down in one stroke.

“But our disguise…” Masa objected in surprise.
“Not kidnappers or national enemies. Slavers, by the look of them” Shiro murmured in concern. “Probably different.“ She handed Masa a dagger quickly and urged her into the tent as several men advanced with swords. “Get inside. Use it if you have to,” she instructed quickly, unsure of her odds if the ambush had enough men to it…
