Chapter 16
by gunde
Does the man accept Harlan’s offer?
Harlan gets to keep his pants
“I’ll take the wagon as well,” the man said, suddenly speaking in fluent English.
A very shocked “Wait! What?!” was Harlan’s immediate response to this, but as the man prepared to fire at him with the rifle he quickly blurted out a panicky “Alright!” before taking a step back.
Casting a scornful glance at the trader as he suddenly remembered that he would need his pants, Druuna watched Harlan lean down and pick them up in an exaggeratedly slow and careful manner before turning around, being in too much of a hurry to leave to actually bothering with putting them on first.
“Wait!” the man called out, “Where’s the keys?”
“In the wagon,” Harlan promised, “on the bed just behind the seat. I promise!”
“You better not be bullshitting me or I’ll hunt you down and make you wear your balls as a necklace.” The man went on to threaten Harlan, who simply repeated his vow as to the location of the key to Druuna’s chain in a tone which bordered on falsetto.
With that, Harlan disappeared into the darkness, running away with his pants clutched in his right hand.
Too stunned by this sudden change of circumstances to say anything at first, Druuna watched the handsome stranger walk over to the cart and pick up the key, which turned out to be exactly where Harlan had said it’d be.
“Thank you!” Druuna said to the man once he’d thrown the key to her.
“Don’t mention it,” the man told her, then nodding at the slab of concrete which was secured in the ground, “what kind of asshole would think up a thing like that?”
Not replying to this, Druuna quickly undid the chain and kicked it away from her before looking at the man once more, her loins stirring at the sight of his massive frame.
“You didn’t happen to see my clothes back there, did you?” Druuna asked, taking great care to sound calm but confident, knowing full well that her situation might still be a dangerous one, as she had yet no real idea of what the man in front of her had planned for her.
“Not so fast,” the man told her, “before you cover yourself up there’s something we need to discuss.”
“Now, I’ve just made that piss-ant mad, and while he was a pathetic piece of shit, he might very well have big and powerful friends, and all of that I did just to help you out.” The man said, and though Druuna was inclined to mention that in helping her he’d ended up being the new owner of a cart, a horse and a small fortune in supplies, but she thought it wiser to keep silent and allow him to go on.
“I don’t want to sound like an asshole, but I figure that I’ve just saved you from slavery and all that, that you might see fit to repay me.”
“And how would I do that?” Druuna asked while doing her best to look seductive, something which she was naturally well-suited for.
“That’s simple,” the man vowed to her, “you just stay with me for a week, and do everything I tell you to do, and if you still want to leave at the end of it you’ll be free to do so.”
“Everything is a pretty vague word,” Druuna pointed out, only to have him assure her that he wouldn’t treat her too roughly, which she thought was awfully nice of him.
Of course, he still hadn’t mentioned what would happen if she refused his offer…
What’s Druuna decision?
