What was on Blake's mind?
How to meet her mother
“I know this was supposed to be our first official date and I was really looking forward to it,” Blake muttered. “It’s just… something came up and it’s just like her…”
“What happened?” You asked, a little worried. “Is someone you know in trouble?”
“No quite…” Blake hesitated and you put a hand on her shoulder reassuringly.
“It’s okay, Blake. You can tell me anything.”
“You know how you had me talk to my family and patch things up?” Blake asked nervously.
“Yeah, but didn’t that go well?”
You were confused. She had told you it had been difficult but everything worked out in the end. That even gave you the courage to call your parents and let them know you were okay and was doing well in Beacon. Was that not the truth? Blake was supposed to trust you completely so it didn’t make sense for her to lie about that.
“No, it did.” Her eyes looked at the ground. “Too well actually. You see… my mom wants to come and visit. She also wants to meet you.”
“Oh…” That didn’t seem to be bad. Maybe a little earlier than you would expect, but it was bound to happen eventually. You lived with Blake, so maybe meeting her mother earlier wouldn’t be bad. “I don’t mind. I’m not ashamed to be seen with you or tell her I like you.”
That smile of hers was incredibly bright when it was genuine.
“Thank you and I do want her to meet you too,” Blake admitted, looking directly into your eyes. “It’s just the timing is… earlier than I would have liked.”
“When is it?” You pushed. “I can make it worked.”
“…Tonight.”
There was a moment’s pause as this sunk in.
“Tonight?” You repeated.
“She arrived in town this morning and got a hotel room before calling,” Blake explained, exasperation etched in her voice. “I guess she plans to be here a couple weeks as a vacation while dad is stuck back home.”
“That’s… sudden? And she just told you?”
“My mom sometimes makes rash decisions when she’s excited about something.” Blake sighed. “She plans a lot of things last minute.”
You thought about Blake’s past and saw some similarities. However, you were smart enough not to say anything. For now, it looks like date plans have changed. After assuring Blake you were fine with meeting her mom, the two of you headed to the hotel. Your girlfriend was obvious nervous, so you held her hand firmly as support and she seemed to appreciate it as her fingers squeezed yours. The hotel came into view when you caught a glimpse of something familiar out of the corner of your eye.
A pink, white, and brown flash.
You had a sick feeling in the pit of your stomach. Carefully, you turned your head, glad Blake didn’t notice, and you saw the familiar face of Neo. She was leaning against a building and waved to you. Her scroll held up for you to see. It seemed like she was taking pictures of your date. You mentally cursed yourself for telling Neo about this. She was helping with scheduling stuff for you, but you should have known a devious girl like her would want to follow.
For now, you decided to ignore her and hope she got bored.
Oh, how we fool ourselves.
“This is it.” Blake informed you, stopping outside a hotel door. It wasn’t the nicest place in Vale, but it was hardly a bad location.
“Last chance to bail.” You joked and she punched your shoulder.
“Keep that up and I might.” She took a deep breath and knocked.
Not even 10 seconds later, the door flew open.
“BLAKE!”
You stared at the woman who caught Blake in a surprise passionate hug. The woman looked like a slightly older Blake with a super kind and excited face. Her cat ears were also slightly larger with piercings. She wore a black hakama and a black shrug over a white undershirt. Blake was taken aback for a moment before wrapping her arms into a hug back. It was a touching sight.
“I thought we were meeting your mom, not your sister?” You asked confused.
Both women stopped hugging and Blake was glaring at you.
Now that you were close up, the woman definitely had a couple age lines on her face. Still, she was really attractive,
“I like him.” The woman whispered to Blake before addressing you directly. “Hello. I’m Kali. Kali Belladonna. Blake’s mother. You must be Jaune.”
Huh, no wonder Blake had such good genes.
How could you possibly mess this up?
