Does the Ceremony go any better?
Yes. Thankfully.
1:09 PM CST
It was almost sunset for Pluton Island when it began. At 1:09 PM, TPEIN, the Empire's public news network, began magically hijacking the all the world's broadcasts, directing viewers first to the desk crew of the hour, two women, both supernaturals, who made a surprise announcement, in plain English, revealing that King Gene Empire had found the future Queen, wording it in such a way as to deliberately maximize the psychological fuel avalable for the inevitable global outrage, for when Karyssa is finally revealed. So far, they only mentioned her by name, showing only pics of the King, and a question mark over a generic black outline of a woman to represent Karyssa. The broadcast was magically translated over the air into local languages.
Once they finished introducing the royal couple, they switched to a live feed from the press room at the Plutonian Capitol. Curiously, King Gene, the groom, was standing on the right when they traditionally stood on the left. He was standing on a temporary altar, half the height of the main stage. In the middle, officiating the ceremony from on the stage, was Anni, who had changed her appearance to look middle aged and more human, and donned Christian attire over her bridesmaid dress. Since she wasn't of a species of succubus to snatch souls or hurt people, she was safe. It was supposed to be Nucleina, but she was still quite upset with Karyssa and the team had to convince her not to attend the ceremony, to avoid causing drama in front of the global audience. Behind Anni to her right, a Belle Hadean man was standing, holding up a fancy, violet pillow with golden tassels hanging off the corners. In a shallow depression in the center of the pillow were the two identical wedding rings. Hanging on the curtained wall behind them was a print of an artistic, purple-ish landscape of the planet Pluto's surface. Normally, there'd be a podium in front of Anni, but since they were performing a ceremony, it had been placed in the back, out of the camera's view, to it's left. There were two other wall-mounted cameras as well, mounted at eye level, so the controllers at TPEIN could remotely zoom in on faces as necessary. The music was already playing, fed to the loud speaker live from a hastily constructed Organ Hall somewhere in the city, as the press room was too small to fit a proper organ. A magic spell had been cast on the room to acoustically better simulate being in a majestic church hall. The guests, the rest of the team and some supernaturals off the street who were willing to help fill space and minimize the Belle Hadeans' presence, had already arrived and been seated.
Already, social media was beginning to firestorm as people were already pissed from having their TV's and livestreams hijacked by TPEIN again. People were also commenting about some of the supernaturals sitting in the guest seats, still trying to get used to the fact that they actually exist. Additionally, misogynist traditionalists watching the ceremony were furious that the apparent minister was female.
Eventually the procession finally began, with the bridesmaids and groomsmen walking down the aisle first. The first couple to slowly walk down was Lilly and one of her other side guys, who Gene thankfully got along well with. Lilly had already used her magic to wipe all the blood off her and out of her dress, now looking pristine as if nothing happened. Shortly after they took their appropriate spots, the next couple, Samantha and her brother, came down the aisle. Shortly after they reached their spots, the music changed to the main sequence, indicating the Bride was next, to walk down alongside Nucleoid. Karyssa and Nucleoid waited a couple extra moments before appearing on the screen, to increase tension and intrigue. This was scripted of course, so the composer playing the organ knew to repeat certain note sequences, and to do so eloquently as to reduce unnecessary/unplanned tension amongst the global audience, which worked.
When Karyssa finally walked in, Gene had the biggest grin on his face to finally see the bride in her beautiful blue gown. Karyssa had a blue-white veil over her face to further entice intrigue. Her wedding tiara has a white floral pattern, and she had a Belle Hadean (against Nucleina's advice) flower in her hair that the world would spend the next few decades speculating over until First Contact. The bouquets Karyssa and the bridesmaids had were more traditional, with standard Earth flowers. Gene's emotions began to well up, as something about a girl with flowers in her hair caressed his hopeless romantic soul in some way, but he was able to refrain from shedding any tears. He had been nervous to tell Karyssa how he liked a woman with a flower in her hair, but Karyssa already intuitively knew, and Gene was grateful.
So far, no one was concerned about her height, since she was just under 3 inches taller than the groom. Karyssa had the biggest grin on her face too, so far seen only by those up front. Halfway down the aisle, she half bit her lip for a moment, evoking so many endorphins and good feelings to unleash unto Gene's brain and heart. At last, Karyssa joined Gene at the altar, released by Nucleoid as he joined the rest of the Groomsmen. Turning to face Gene is when social media slowly began to grow concerned about Karyssa's appearance, still partially hidden by her veil.
At this point, the TPEIN newscasters managed to wrap up the unscripted portion of their commentary and begin the partially scripted part, designed to both light the global bonfire of outrage and allow some creative freedom for the anchors editorialize further outrage fuel into it. Since they were the only two news anchors on the entire TPEIN anchor staff who liked Karyssa (hence their selection for this shift), they felt no desire to feign concern or outrage, but they did feign a miniscule amount of it at minimum. The anchors were otherwise proud, boastful, and congratulatory of the royal couple, fanning the flames, before Anni finally began the introductions, once the automated tv camera finished slowly zooming as the bride walked down the aisle.
"Dearly Beloved," Anni began as the music subsided, sounding equally middle aged as her appearance suggested. “Thank you for joining us here this evening. Today we are gathered to witness and celebrate the union of King Gene <censor bleep> Empire and Karyssa Marie-Moira Nelson in holy matrimony." Anni's mouth was blurred too, when she uttered Gene's middle name.
"In the countless lifetimes and incarnations they have been together, their love and understanding of each other has grown and matured, and now, in this lifetime, they have decided to again live their lives together as husband and wife. And from now on, henceforth and forever, as the Queen and King of the eternal United Planets of the Plutonian Empire."
The last sentence sent chills down the spines of billions of people worldwide. Psychic intuitives realized the Plutonian Empire was here to stay. For eternity. And not only that, Karyssa's mom back in Bourgeois Hills, Minnesota, was watching too. Initially, Leslie Nelson was already pissed that the conquerers that took over her state had magically interrupted the taped rerun of an episode of her favorite talk show, its host being a fraudulent psychiatrist that loved bullying people on air. She went to the kitchen to grab a snack, and came back, snack in hand. She growled when she heard Karyssa being mentioned, remembering her most hated daughter had the same name. But once she saw her through the veil, her jaw dropped, and her granola bar fell apart as she tightened her grip in anger. She looked far too similar. Hearing Anni say her name confirmed it. She flew into a blind fury, fully fueled by TPEIN's stoking of the flames, and screamed countless obscenities, throwing the remains of her granola bar at the TV. How DARE Karyssa find such happiness! She kicked her out fully intending to have her die in the freezing cold, like she so rightfully deserved in Leslie's mind. Naturally, Karyssa was an adult and had every right to do whatever she wanted, but still. Leslie had hoped Karyssa's immaturity would have done her in.
"And now," Anni continued. "We shall begin." Anni looked at Karyssa first, breaking with the groom first tradition. The man holding the violet pillow stepped in so Karyssa could pick up a ring, after she handed her bouquet to a bridesmaid, and the ringbearer stepped back again once Karyssa had the ring.
"I, Karyssa Nelson," Karyssa began. Right then and there, countless millions of misogynist traditionalists began raging at their TV's all over the world. Her grin became a cheshire smile for a moment as she relished the irate energies of the global audiance. Hearing Karyssa's voice sealed the deal for Leslie, who was now trashing her living room in utter fury.
"Take thee Gene Empire to be my wedded husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, or better for worse, for richer for poorer," Karyssa continued. Gene held up his left hand, and Karyssa slid on the ring. Again, her hands were ice cold, and Gene loved every bit of it. By now linguistic, historical, and theological experts realized the wedding ceremony was using an Old English form of the wedding vows, from the 1600's.
"In sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, beyond life, beyond ****, unto eternity," Psychics the world over shuddered when Karyssa finished. They were witnessing the reunion of multi-lifetime soul mates. And this time there was no separating them, for now they had magical immortality.
"According to God's holy ordinance, and thereto I give thee my troth." Karyssa finished, letting go of Gene's hand. Anni turned to Gene, who was struggling, but succeeding, to keep from getting teary-eyed and emotional. The ring-bearer stepped over to Gene, who picked up the ring accordingly and now held up the bride's left hand.
"I, Gene Empire, take thee Karyssa Nelson to be my wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, or better for worse, for richer for poorer..." Gene slid the ring onto Karyssa's ring finger.
"in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, beyond life, beyond ****, unto eternity, according to God's holy ordinance, and thereto I give thee my troth." Gene finished, letting go of Karyssa's hand.
"And with that," Anni started. "Under Plutonian Imperial law, and, in the name of God, I hereby pronounce thee husband and wife. You may now kiss." This was it, the big moment everyone was waiting for. Especially, especially Karyssa. Gene slowly lifted Karyssa's veil over her head.
Ka-foom!
Everyone the world over shouted at their TVs and livestreams upon seeing Karyssa's appearance. Many immediately began firestorming on social media, condemning the Plutonian Government, especially King Gene, for picking such a bride. In truth, it was more the bride picking the groom, since unbeknownst to the rest of the world, she was the dom in this relationship. Most psychics around the world also knew better, since they correctly sensed Karyssa was actually magically choosing her appearance in a way to troll the world. They saw through TPEIN's bullshit, shaking their heads at the whole thing. Before going in for the kiss, Gene and Karyssa purposely hesitated a few seconds, allowing Karyssa to do the suggestive half lip bite, which further fueled the outrage amongst the prudes of the world. Karyssa grinned, fully enjoying the psychic sensations of the world's rage. Finally, they embraced with a big, long kiss, while the guests broke into a big round of applause. Needless to say, a few million people threw up at the sight, with most of the rest of the world again shouting at their TV's.
Once their kiss ended, the music began again, with the organ composer playing a different tune, and at a lower, sentimental volume. The TPEIN anchors interjected, announcing that Karyssa's coronation as the new Queen was immediately next. Leslie Nelson fell to her knees screaming "No," followed by a prolonged "No," and sobbing upon hearing that, even though she knew it was coming. Just, she didn't expect it would be right away. She hated her unwanted daughter with all her being. But alas...
Within moments, Anni addressed the bride.
"Karyssa, I understand you wanted to say something after the kiss?"
"Yes."
"Please do."
"Gene," Karyssa started, looking at her brand new hubby. "For six years, you were very far away; getting ready for the Empire." The Belle Hadeans had to suppress reacting, as to not give themselves away.
"Yes, that is true!" Gene happily replied. Karyssa momentarily looked down as she delicately took her flower out of her hair. The flower's scent was a strong, beautiful mix of rose and lavender. Looking again at Gene with the flower in her hand, she resumed.
"I took this flower from far beneath your window up there."
Gene nodded and smiled in acknowledgement, before Karyssa continued.
"As tribute to your patience... Your kindness... And all those free lovin' sexytimes up there..." She embedded that joke with a brief smirk, and had to suppress the instinct to giggle. Most of the world was utterly offended to hear such words from a future head of state. Lilly immediately, involuntarily blushed, knowing exactly what Karyssa was referring to. She kept it to a grin, still having hate and anger towards Karyssa, but at least mentally acknowledging Karyssa's respect for their relationship. Lilly momentarily glanced down, mildly disappointed at remembering that it will be quite a few decades before she can feel Gene's dick in her again, before resuming looking at the couple again. There was some futilely suppressed giggling from the guests, however.
"With this special flower... With the powers invested in me by whatever Lovecraftian horror that spawned me..."
Again, futilely suppressed giggles, this time just from the supernaturals, since they automatically got the reference. Lilly snickered, also getting the reference, with her experience earlier today still very fresh in her memory. Lilly began mentally kicking herself for laughing at the bride's jokes, still angry about what happened earlier. Leslie Nelson in Minnesota, who ran out things to trash in her living room, was even less amused, not realizing Karyssa wasn't even trying to reference her. Regardless, Leslie flipped off her TV.
"I hereby create your throne, my liege." Karyssa finished, letting go of the flower as it rose from her hand. Leslie gasped, frightened by her daughter's new visual magical ability, realizing that's what Karyssa's cousin was referring to. Like something out of a Zelda game's cutscene, the flower began to glow with a gentle, violet hue, before moving backwards toward the curtained wall and permanently morphing into a gothic throne, just to the left of the aisle. It was a regal but severe-looking throne, made of dark wood and padded with a dark fabric, with a twisting spire on each side pointing towards the heavens. The armrests and feet were embellished with bronze, polished just enough to stand out but not enough to be distractingly shiny. It had 3 long "claws" on each of the front of the armrests, with 3 shorter "claws" for each of the front feet. The fabric on the seat and backpadding had a black and grey floral pattern. The psychics of the world shuddered again. This throne was fucking sinister, contrasting hard with the Gene's colorfully positive personality that the world was beginning to discover.
Leslie had to stop herself from fainting, and just like that, began questioning herself. Did she make Karyssa this sinister way, due to her vile behavior towards her daughter? Or was Karyssa secretly always like this, as her random bouts of near-supernatural rage all these years seemed to imply? Leslie was not some dumb brute by any stretch of the imagination, as her siblings had always complimented her intelligence and self awareness growing up. Without this, Leslie would have never started questioning herself, and would have doubled down on the vile hatred instead. Leslie also finally realized she had let her resentment towards being a mother consume her for so long as well.
"Whoah. Thank you, my Queen!" Gene respectfully bowed, with Karyssa reciprocating with a respectful curtsy. Already, their relationship's wholesome, equal, and respectful nature was slowly becoming apparent to the global audience.
"And now, my turn to create yours." Gene offered. He was about to get an anxiety spike upon realizing he wasn't powerful enough to do it.
"Don't worry, bae. I'll help out." Karyssa telepathically informed him. He was grateful for the magical telepathy training on Belle Hades, for the "voice bass" sensation from Karyssa would have frightened anyone who wasn't used to telepathy.
Gene eloquently and artfully gestured with his left hand (his dominant), using his powers to sprout Karyssa's identical throne from the floor to the right of the aisle, right next to his. Karyssa mentally aided Gene by amplifying his powers with hers. Within moments, there were now two identical, sinister thrones sitting at the back of the stage, behind where Anni previously was.
"Fucking finally." Anni thought. She was anxious to have had the thrones made, originally thinking Karyssa's brief speech to Gene would have been some time wasting bullshit instead, before Karyssa pleasantly surprised her with the throne creation.
"With the thrones created, you may now stand in front of them." Anni gestured, and the couple made their way to their respective thrones, doing their best to maintain poker faces, looking straight ahead. The ringbearer walked up the aisle to the entrance. Off-camera to the camera's right, the ringbearer had an assistant place Karyssa's crown on the fancy pillow. A crownbearer already had Gene's crown on an identical pillow. They were created just last night by Gene and Karyssa after working together on the design.
Inspired by British Royalty design, and mixed in with the couple's imagination, the crowns had a furry biege rim with patterned black dots lining a violet fabric. On top were two metallic-grey rings, an unusual, unique design. The outer ring was thicker, bearing alternating stretched "clubs" (like on a deck of cards) and small spikes, with the supporting ring having embedded violet gemstones in between protruding "buttons." The inner ring was thinner and slightly lighter in shade. It had a more vague "club" design, with 4 large clubs alternating with 4 smaller clubs, all of which had single gemstones embedded in their centers. Gene's inner ring's gemstones were blue, while Karyssa's were lavender, to help differentiate which crown was who's. The crown rings themselves were made of composite, metallic alloys to significantly reduce weight. The ringbearer got behind the crownbearer.
Soon, the crownbearer and ringbearer appeared on camera, walking down the aisle with the crowns. The crownbearer stood to Gene's side upon arrival; the ringbearer stood next to Karyssa as the music again ended.
"By placing the King's crown on his head, Gene Empire will now have the power to choose and declare his Queen, and to deliver the Royal Oath." Anni announced. She delicately picked up Gene's crown, and slowly lowered it onto his head.
Gene took one step forward and turned to face Karyssa.
"Karyssa Nelson, it is my understanding that you wish to create a Royal Sceptre, correct?" Gene asked.
"Yes."
"Do you agree that the Royal Scepter, once created, is to have zero magical power of its own, is exclusively for ceremonial purposes only, and any magic used through this Sceptre is to be completely under your own power, in accordance with Plutonian Imperial Law?"
"Yes."
"You may do so now." Gene took a step back to give Karyssa room. She held out and raised her right fist in a vertical position, leaving it slight open so it can form with her desired width. She was a leftie like Gene, but had to use her right hand for ergonomical purposes, given the thrones' designated positions. In moments, a violet cloud sprang from within her grasp, flowing out both sides of her fist, and coalescing to create the Royal Sceptre. It was of a black, gothic design, holding a clear crystal ball 2 inches in diameter, held in place by four twisting spires similar to those on top of their thrones.
"Oooh, pwetty!" Gene thought to himself. He liked the thrones just as much too. Now came the part the bride and groom were really looking forward to. Gene took one step forward, back to his previous spot.
"King Gene will now admister the Royal Oath." Anni announced, walking over to Karyssa, who gave her the royal scepter so she can take the Royal Oath properly, and stepped away, leaving room for the bearers. With that, Gene turned to the crownbearer, and, again with Karyssa's help, summoned a folded Plutonian flag, now laying on the fancy pillow. The flag, if unfolded, would look black with two white stars. The larger one on the bottom left is identical to the star on the Marshall Island's flag, representing the planet Pluto. Inside it, is a royal blue astrological symbol of Pluto, with a cross, and a crescent above the cross holding a circle. On the top right of the flag is a smaller, blank white star similar to the one on Malaysia's flag, representing Pluto's moon, Charon. The crownbearer walked over to Karyssa's side. She placed her left hand on the flag, raising her right hand.
"Do you, Karyssa M-M Nelson-Empire, solemnly swear to faithfully serve and protect the Plutonian people, as the highest authority equal with the King?"
"I do."
"Do you, Karyssa M-M Nelson-Empire, solemnly swear to faithfully embody the full might of the entire armed forces, including nuclear explosives, planet killers, and supernova weapons, to defend the Plutonian Empire against any and all threats towards the safety and integrity of the Plutonian Empire and her people, from both without and from within?"
Ka-foom!
This question sent more shockwaves around the world, again fanning and refueling the flames of the metaphorical Plutonian bonfire of global outrage, sparking ever more firestorms on social media. People were especially stunned by the inclusion of space-based super-weapons, which the Plutonian Empire didn't have. Yet. But it didn't stop multiple conspiracy theories from taking off either.
"I do."
"Do you, Karyssa M-M Nelson-Empire, solemnly swear to faithfully defend the freedoms, rights, and civil liberties automatically granted to Plutonian citizens of any and all creed, ethnic, religious, supernatural, and interstellar backgrounds against any and all attempts to suppress, repress, or oppress them?" With that, officials from authoritarian regimes all around the world shifted uncomfortably. The Plutonian Empire may be autocratic too, but it would never be like them. Allowing populations freedoms and civil rights was equivalent to unforgivable sins in their regimes. Additionally, historians immediately noted King Gene mentioning "supernatural" and "interstellar" backgrounds. The Plutonian Empire was laying the groundwork for a magical and a future interstellar society, as hinted upon by the previous inclusion of space weapons. Which was unprecedented in the history of the planet. Leslie finally fainted after realizing such power Karyssa will inevitably share.
"I do." Karyssa hesitated a second or two before answering. She really wanted to toy with the population for shits and giggles like she did with Lilly. But she quickly reminded herself to at least try to be better. But those perceptive enough did notice the slight hesitation, and chills went up their spine. Karyssa was definitely hiding something, it seemed.
"Do you, Karyssa M-M Nelson-Empire, solemnly swear to faithfully protect and maintain the integrity and benevolence of the Crown, the Imperial government, and the Armed Forces, and to refrain at all costs from ever turning these powers against the Plutonian citizenry?"
"I do."
"And lastly; do you, Karyssa M-M Nelson-Empire, solemnly and faithfully accept all the responsibilities of wearing the Crown, heading the highest authority equal with the King, and to respect the rights, freedoms, and individuality of all heirs?"
"I do."
"Thank you." Gene respectfully nodded, and Karyssa reciprocated. With that, the crownbearer walk backed to his previous spot, and the ringbearer holding Karyssa's crown took his place. Gene stepped a little closer so he could reach the crown, and delicately picked it up. Since both crowns were perfectly circular, he didn't need to worry too much about proper orientation.
"With the powers invested in me, on behalf of the entire Plutonian people, I, King Gene <censor bleep> Empire of the United Planets of the Plutonian Empire, hereby crown you, Karyssa M-M Nelson-Empire, as my eternal equal, and as Queen of the United Planets of the Plutonian Empire!" Gene delicately placed Karyssa's new crown on her head, stepped back in front of his throne as Anni walked to Gene's right. He picked up the Royal Sceptre, placing his left hand below where Karyssa's was, faced forwards, and held the Royal Sceptre between him and Karyssa. Karyssa grasped the Royal Scepter where her hand was previously, and faced forward.
"So let it be said, so let it be done!" Gene yelled as they raised the Royal Sceptre upon the last word, with big smiles on their faces.
"All hail Queen Karyssa!" Everyone in the room, except the royal couple, chanted three times in unison, fully cementing her new status.
Does Karyssa make a speech?
