Chapter 38 by Westwall Westwall

What does she decide?

Ambush the creature!

Marie, not wanting to waste even more time in finding the doctor, decides that fighting this beast was the best option. Readying her blade, taking a deep breath, and rushing forward, Marie's plan was immediate. Slashing across the back of the neck and hoping to cut right through, Marie realized she was not moving as fast through the flesh as before. Even though her beam was right against the monsters skin, she was no longer moving forward. Without any momentum to carry her, Marie was now basically hacking at very tough flesh.

The monster, roaring in either pain or annoyance, quickly lumbered and swung its hefty arm to the right. The massive log-like appendage smacked into Marie and sent her flying backwards, her blade falling from her grip. Sailing through the air and slamming onto the ground, Marie felt the wind knock right out of her. Her HUD warned her of internal contusions, though she couldn't deal with them now.

The monster, obviously pissed at her recent attack, came barreling forward with no regard to its own safety. Without her blade on hand, Marie knew she would be unable to really defend herself. Should she flee from the attack? Before she could think on retreat, the creature threw another punch towards Marie. Deftly dodging it, a follow-up strike found its mark and slammed Marie to the left. Her rig armor, already quite damaged from her rough use on it, was definitely failing. Damage caused her face-shield to drop, exposing her face.

The creature reared back, and Marie saw something bubbling up its exposed throat. Yellow ichor and some type of heavy fluid seemed to be coming from its stomach, and its 'mouth' started to open. **** in the position she was in, Marie guarded herself as best as she could.

Does she protect her face well enough?
