Chapter 35 by Westwall Westwall

Now what?

Making her way out

Realizing that the elevator was not going to move on its own, Marie quickly activates her blade and moves towards the sidewall of the lift. Checking to make sure she wasn't going to hit anything important, she plunges the blade into the metal quickly and starts to cut her way out. Eventually, after cutting through enough of the infrastructure, a small tunnel reveals itself. The maintenance tunnels that run throughout the ship were not rated for humans, and Marie could tell this one hadn't been used in a very long time.

Regardless, she couldn't just wait for the elevator to start moving on its own. Her crew would eventually abandon her if she didn't reach them soon, and she wasn't going to be stuck on this ship forever. Crawling through the metal ductwork, Marie kept her data-map handy as she moved. She was also moving rather quickly, not wanting to be caught in the tunnel by any nasty creatures.

It appeared that the tunnel eventually led to to the very nose of the massive ship itself, where most of the Communication stations were held. Even though Marie had fixed the reactor, the ship comms had been mysteriously silent. The only signal the ship had given out was the initial distress call, which had completely shut off on its own apparently. Marie surmised that perhaps a surviving crew member had shut it off, though rescue was unfortunately already on the way.

The tunnel, a rather tight and dark space, eventually led Marie directly into a room she could actually stand up in. Cutting her way through the vent blocking her way, Marie dropped onto her feet and readied herself for any possible ambush. Eerie silence greeted her instead, and she lowered her guard. Clicking into her comm-link to Samson, Marie attempted to reach him.

"Samson? Do you read? Its Marie."

Nothing but static followed her message. About to attempt another try at contact, Marie was alerted to a deeply inhumane growl from nearby. Readying her blade, her eyes widened when she heard something completely unheard of thus far.

A woman was screaming in the distance, and Marie wouldn't wait long to help.

What's next?
