Lunch with "Friends"
“You know, Kaylee getting a steady boyfriend was the best thing to ever happen.” Abby’s sudden announcement came as a surprise to the table, which brought all attention to her. She looked to her friends and teammates around her. “Oh, don’t pretend you have no idea what I’m talking about. It’s nice to actually have the chance to spend the night with Sean or another great guy for once instead of Kaylee swooping in and taking them for herself.”
Kaylee looked indignant. “Hey!”
“She does make a good point,” Ellie said with a smile.
“You of all people have no room to talk. You’re just as bad as she is,” Abby said with a glare in the girl's direction. Ellie did her best to project the image of innocence—something she was entirely too good at considering her nature. Laughter danced around the table. Beside me, Liam made a gagging noise and I chuckled.
“Seriously,” he said in a whisper to me. “Why do we sit here again?”
I didn’t answer him, giving him a grin. We both knew he wasn’t pushing to change tables, but he did love to bitch and moan about it.
“You know, we still haven’t got the details about our resident shy-guy,” Zoe said, giving me a pointed look before eyeing Kaylee. That shifted the attention of the table to Kaylee who looked uncomfortable.
“True, true. Deets!” Ellie said excitedly before giving me a hungry look. It seemed me being Kaylee’s boyfriend hadn’t deterred her desire to bed me. Hardly a confidence booster since she would ride any pole offered her.
“Come on… He’s right here…” Kaylee said giving me an apologetic smile.
“On a scale of Rico to Sean, where does he stand?” Abby asked.
I blinked in confusion at the odd scaling metric. It might as well have been an encrypted message. The only way I could understand that scale was if she used the two names offered. Rico was obviously bad and I knew from previous conversations Sean was something to strive for. I found myself wishing she would say I was on that level, but that was exactly what it was: wishful thinking.
“Not saying,” Kaylee said, crossing her arms. The girls continued prodding, but she was determined to keep her lips sealed on the matter. Rather, I think she enjoyed keeping the others in the dark by the playful smile she had.
“Has to be pretty good if Kaylee hasn’t gotten bored of him already,” Sarah said softly. I wasn’t sure what I was more surprised at, her speaking up or what she said. I think she embarrassed herself as if she hadn’t meant to say that out loud. Cheeks reddening, she quickly busied herself by taking a sip of her drink.
Suddenly, the girls’ attention was on me, and I found my self-consciousness eating at me as I did my best to focus on my food.
“You know, that’s a good point,” Abby said thoughtfully.
“Come on,” Kaylee said, trying to direct the conversation away from our relationship. Sadly, that wasn’t how this worked.
“Bet he has a huge cock,” Ellie said with a sparkle in her eye as she stared at me.
Zoe waved it off. “No way. Kaylee hates big cocks. My guess he’s tiny. Bet my finger is longer,” she said, wiggling her middle finger in my direction. I glowered at her but said nothing. She was pushing the bounds of our truce, but I could handle a few needling remarks. It wasn’t nearly as bad as it had been before Kaylee and I started dating.
“Fuck off, Zoe,” Kaylee said with a lighthearted laugh. “He’s not that small! He’s probably five—” She caught herself too late. Her face went sheet white as she looked in horror over in my direction. I winced, knowing that was forever out there. Worst of all, Zoe of all people now knew.
The snort that followed confirmed my worst fear. “Five? Probably? So he’s smaller than five? You’re seriously satisfied with that? Kaylee… Your standards are slipping.”
“Zoe, stop.” Kaylee’s voice dripped with venom as she glared at her friend. The color had returned quickly to her face as anger bubbled beneath the surface.
“Seriously, Zoe. That was rude,” Ellie said. “All cocks are beautiful no matter how small they are.” She gave me a bright smile as if that was supposed to make me feel better.
“You’re telling me if you had a choice between a guy with a small cock or a big one, you’d pick the guy with the small one?”
Ellie gave a confused tilt of her head. “Why would I pick one or the other? Can’t I pick both?”
Zoe rolled her eyes. “Ugh. You’re hopeless. Bet he pops off quick too.”
That was my cue to leave. “Scott. Scott, wait!” I heard as I walked away, tray in hand. The last thing I heard was the sound of Zoe snickering as a few girls chastised her. Maybe it looked like I was running away, but I found my anger was less about Kaylee letting sensitive info slip and more on Zoe in general. The better my relationship with Kaylee was, the nastier she seemed to get.
“I’m sorry.” Dropping my tray on the stack, I found Kaylee waiting behind me with her head hung low. “I didn’t mean to say that. I’m used to being more open and it kinda slipped out.”
“To be honest, Kaylee, I don’t care how much of our sex life you talk about. What I’m angry about is god damn Zoe.”
“She’s—”
“Fucking toxic,” I interrupted. “I get that you two are friends, but that woman has issues. I’ve tried to be nice. I’ve tried to ignore all the shit she says about me. I’m fucking done with her shit, Kaylee. You can sit there and vent about how bad I am in bed all day to your friends, but I’m done with her shit. Liam and I will sit somewhere else from now on.”
She visibly flinched. I walked off before she could respond, ignoring her calling my name. It was a bit of a dick move on my part, but my anger made it hard to care. Kaylee talking about our sex life wasn’t what bothered me. I’d listened to the girls talk about their conquests, good and bad, for years. Even if a guy didn’t live up to their demanding standards, they never acted like they wanted to destroy that guy’s very existence.
Zoe was different. She was going to use it to beat me over the head with it. And she would enjoy every second of it. Any little thing that could be used as ammunition, she fucking loaded and fired without a second thought. Like I told Kaylee, I was done with her shit. Senior year didn’t have that long left, and I certainly wasn’t going to spend the last several months of school getting pummeled by an immature bitch with a vendetta against me because her ex-girlfriend picked me over her. I had enough problems without Zoe adding shit to the pile.
