Chapter 11 by Katnaace Katnaace

Check out her parents room?

Check it out

Giving her sisters a nod, Misty made a beeline for her parent's room. Try as she might to remember the last time she had been in there, no answer came to her head. It had to be some time after they passed on. Maybe out of a strange curiosity of what was held within.

Pushing the door open, the gym leader stared into the room. Far bigger than all the other bedrooms, dust and darkness hung over the place. Waving her hand against the wall, she eventually found the switch. Giving it a tap, Misty watched the lights turn back on. Gazing about the room, she did a double take. Compared to the generally modern interior of the rest of the gym, this room reminded her a lot of the mosque. Not that Misty could put her finger on what it was that did it for her. Perhaps it was the various prayer mats on the floor. Or perhaps the way the ceiling had the illusion of a domed roof. Add in all of the charts and posters for prayers, a far different picture was beginning to form in her head about her mother.

The bed looked to be made up from one side, the other left unused. Whoever was in here last had left behind a note. Ignoring the dust being thrown about, Misty made her way over.

Dearest Misty,

I'm sorry this is how you find out about this part of me. Even after your father died, I found myself lost without anything to guide me. When I first put on the hijab, it felt like nothing that I had ever felt before. Given the choice, I would have allowed you to this fill this experience as well. Alas, time was not on my side and your raising fell to your sisters. Try as I might to get them to see my way of life, they wanted nothing to do with it.

Perhaps you can do what I can not. I ask of you to teach your sisters the error of their ways. Promise me you can do that for me, please?

Your Mother,

Maha

Keep her mother's promise?
