Chapter 20
by
Decadent Empire
Challenge Lt. Surge?
Yes
Your first gym wasn't too difficult, your second one, you managed to find a loophole, but you could feel that your third one was going to be much more of a challenge. From your discussion with Jenny, you know that this one is going to come down to strategy and power: type advantages are not going to mean anything.
Still, you had been training hard and you had a good team. You were ready. It was with confidence that you marched up to the gym leader, Lieutenant Surge and announced your challenge. He laughed. "So, another wannabe pokemon master has come to claim the Thunder Badge, eh? Let's see what you've got, then!" Under his orders the arena is cleared and the two of you prepare for battle.
He throws out his first pokemon, a Voltorb. You quickly consider your options. Lacy, Misty, and Jenny stand on the sidelines, cheering, waiting to be put in. Ekans and Charmeleon await their chance inside their balls. You know that Voltorbs are fast, so you decide to match speed with speed. "Go, Champ!" Ekans bursts out of his ball with a loud hiss. The battle is on.
"Use Tackle!" The faster Voltorb charges into your Ekans, just as you had hoped. Ekans endures the blow.
"Now, use Wrap!" you command. In a flash, Ekans wraps his body around his opponent. Your fans cheer. You have nullified the speed advantage.
Surge grimaces. "Screech!" The Voltorb lets out a defeaning cry, and your Ekans recoils, but doesn't let go.
"Bite, quickly!" Ekans sinks his fangs into Voltorb. It flinches, giving you a chance to go again. "Hit it with a Poison Sting." Champ unleashes a point blank sting, successfully poisoning Voltorb.
"Hit him with a Shock Wave!" Voltorb's body lights up with electricity, shocking Ekans. He falls to the ground, defeated. "That was a good trick, but you're not the only one with good up close moves," Lt. Surge says with a smirk.
Damn, you were hoping to take out his first pokemon with Ekans. "Great job, buddy," you tell Champ as you recall him. "Okay Misty, you're up next." Misty walks into the arena and assumes a fighting stance.
"Hit her with a Sonicboom," Surge says to his Voltorb. It responds with an ear splitting sound, which hits Misty right in the gut, a critical hit. Misty is knocked down on her butt.
"You alright Misty?" you call out to her.
She struggles to get up, "I think that's it for me. I wish I could have been more of a help..." she limps out of the arena and sits down on the sidelines. Misty is hurt, but not permanently injured. It seems like she has inherited a pokemon's resilience as well.
"You did your best. That's all that matters. Lacy, let's see what you can do." Lacy jumps in next. You can tell that Voltorb is weak, and with the poision, should be out with another attack. "Hit him with a Tackle!" Voltorb tries to dodge, but he is too tired and weak, and Lacy knocks him out clean.
Surge recalls his Voltorb and grabs another pokeball. He throws it and out comes a Pikachu. They stare each other down for a moment before they explode into action with their trainer's commands.
"Pikachu, Tackle!"
"Lacy, Tackle!"
They collide in the middle of the arena. Lacy's larger weight means she gets the better of that exchange, but Pikachu is an experienced fighter and recovers quickly. He retaliates with a fast Quick Attack, hitting Lacy hard in the side. The hit knocks the breath out of her. You are worried until she gives you a thumbs up.
"Try a Tail Whip!" you order.
"You got it boss!" Lacy spins around, lifts her skirt, showing off her ass and bounces her bubble butt up and down. His Pikachu watches her, and you can see him let down his guard a little bit. You wait for the next attack. After a few seconds of nothing, you glance at Lt. Surge. His jaw is almost on the ground as he stares at Lacy's ass. Looks like her move is effective agaisnt pokemon and trainers alike.
You take the opportunity to get off a free attack. "Doublekick him!" Lacy drops her skirt down and hits Pikachu with three clean strikes. He goes down.
Surge shakes his head, coming out of his trance. He mutely recalls his Pikachu and summons his last pokemon, a Raichu. "Quick attack." Surge gives the order calmy and quietly. The Raichu bursts forward, landing a perfect hit on Lacy. You know, right off the bat, that she is out of the fight. Misty and Jenny rush over and helped the dazed lass off the battlefield. You give her a smile that she returns.
Your thoughts return to your fight. You are in a good spot, with your two best fighters against his one. You grab your last remaining pokeball and throw it. "Go, Ace!" Your Charmeleon emerges from his ball. He looks back at you, but he has an odd expression on his face, almost as if he doesn't feel like fighting. Huh. "Ace, use ember!" You yell, but shockingly, he just shakes his head.
Lt. Surge looks on, arms crossed. "Sorry kid, looks like he refuses to fight. If he won't attack, I'm afraid he will have to be disqualified."
You give Ace a look. "Are you going to fight?" You're too confused to think of anything better to say. Ace shakes his head. With no other option, you return him to his pokeball. You'll have to figure this out after the fight. Unfortunately for you, your 2 to 1 advantage just dissapeared. You look over at Jenny. "Alright Jenny, looks like you're up."
She jumps up and jogs into the arena. "On it, Boss!" She gets into a fighting stance.
"Hit him with a doublekick!" You yell. She runs over and kicks the Raichu once, then twice, then three times, each doing significant damage.
"Thunder Wave!" commands Surge, and lighting hits Jenny. Her body tenses up and you can immediately tell that she is paralyzed. Slowed down by the lighting shock, Jenny isn't ready to attack yet, so Surge yells "Quick Attack."
"Hit him with a Stomp when he's up close," you quickly shout to Jenny. Holding your breath to see if she's able to pull it off, at the last second, hitting Raicu square in the head as he moves in to attack, scoring a critical hit and knocking him out. Your ladies cheer on the sideline as you win the battle. Jenny pumps her fist in the air.
"Great fight," Surge admits, handing over the badge. "You really earned this."
"Thank you," you reply, adding it to your collection. You depart the gym, victorious, but with a very injured team.
Where do you head next?
