I think I saw an alley door open in the alley on my right. Maybe I can get out of sight for a while and think of what to do next. I slowed and darted down the alley. I peeked around the door frame and into the building and luckily did not see anyone. Then I entered and shut the door behind me in case someone was on my trail. I could never be sure since by now I was considered a criminal.

I found myself in a stairway.
