Chapter 34 by tailteller

Is Sally stupid?

Yes.

Aurora heard all of the conversing going on outside. Pretend to be human, she thought. It finally made sense. There were people looking for her, so they tried to hide her like this. It didn't feel right..and it would almost certainly backfire. Her gut felt like someone digging around for her organs. Then she felt it. The unique heat in the air that only ever came from another Nova. Maybe if she could keep calm...

<Sister?>

Keep your eyes closed...it's definitely not him. He's safe with the pod. He's too young for them to pull out anyways. Even if the humans knew how bright her brother was, they couldn't get him here.

<Sister?!>

Hands shook her. Right...she looks dead to him. Just like James when he sleeps. How had she forgotten? She had to trust the plan.

Her little brother let go of her, screaming. She could see the rage and fear with her eyes closed. Unintelligible words screamed back from the other room. Someone knocked over furniture, and a loud noise she'd never heard deafened her. Finally, her eyes opened to her brother crying over her. He noticed, and washed over with relief and happiness. She found herself suddenly without a wig, and being dragged through the house. James lay bleeding on the floor, his chair on its side. Panic and sorrow flooded her being, shining across the room.

<NO! What have you done?!>

The woman in a uniform pointed at the door, speaking to her partner. Her brother nearly dragged her outside. All she could do was call for James, and Sally. It wasn't long before she couldn't speak, sitting in the back of a hot car, waiting to be dragged off. Either back to the hell she ran from, or to her pod. Neither felt like home now.

And they never would again.
