Chapter 15 by TheArchitect TheArchitect

"Is it... liquid latex? I wonder what happens if

I suddenly find the key?"

She stepped over a few lowly-laid pipes carefully, then put her hand over something that made the quick snaps stop.

"There you are." — The key was hanging on a ring attached to one of the huge valves. Jen detached it and put it inside the keyhole on the steel band of the blindfold on the back of her head. Breathless, she turned it. The band retracted into the leather part, and the blindfold fell off the girl's eyes.

Jen could see now. It took some time for her senses to set eyesight up as the primary source of information about her surroundings again. She saw the round gray containers and the heaters with boiling water which were maintaining the proper temperature of black liquid latex inside. The dull dark pipes all over the place were in contrast with bright birch ceiling. Most of the lamplights were hanging near the top of many wide pillars.

Jen saw doors leading to other departments of the basement, but something entirely different was on her mind.

"I'm free! I can see! Let's get out of here!"

She ran to the ladder and climbed it quickly, then rushed through the passage until she was in the hexagon-shaped room again. The girl looked up and saw the climbing plants framing the hemisphere-shaped transparent ceiling. There was blue sky with clouds behind it.

"I never thought I would need to go such a long way to get back such a basic thing like the ability to see. It may be wise to appreciate what I have, 'cause I might lose it in a most ridiculous way. My home. My parents. My life. Who was I back there, anyway?" — she said before lowering her glance towards the door with the 'Exit' nameplate above it.

Exit the White Mall?
