Ambush! Part 3

Batman and Lantern still had their hands full, fending off the slaves of Grodd, or more accurately, Hades. Somehow, he instilled some of his divine strength into Harley and the others to augment their strength.

Shayera charged at John's see-through barrier, her mace not only crackling with electric currents but was also enflamed! This combination of elemental energies banged hard upon the surface, embedding cracks into it! The second hit made the cracks more widespread, as John pleaded with her. "Hawkgirl! Shayera, stop this!"

"It's no use, Stewart..." Her reply was forlorn, somber. And when she bashed her way in a third time, she **** Lantern to retreat. But he also went on the offensive with short laser-like blasts. Naturally, as she dodged or blocked them all in mid-air, Harley and Diana were still after Batman.

Wonder Woman kept on flying at him, throwing punches with loud, determined grunts. In conjunction, Harley used her acrobatics to throw him off while swinging her hammer at him. When it didn't work, she slammed it onto the ground so hard that a wave of flaming energy traveled along it!

Luckily, Bats is very agile as he did a backward handspring to avoid the energy wave. Unfortunately, Diana caught him and restrained his arms by looping hers under his armpits and locking her fingers behind his head. "You go nowhere, Batman," she declared. Harley flipped her hammer around as she approached, to point the handle at him just before her eyes were aflame.

She grinned, taunting, "This is been a long time coming, Bats!" With her newfound speed, she rapidly assaulted his chest again and again and again with short, hard jabs! After 18 blows, she took a quick breather, for she thought she had heard a bone, or a few, break. Batman coughed, sprinkling the ground with a few drops of blood.

"Quinn!" he groaned. "You're falling into your rut again. What will your Pudd'n think when he sees you acting out?"

"Mr. J is nothin' to me now, B-man." She raised her mallet up, sparking flames around its head and was ready to smash Bruce's head like an overripe melon, toothily grinning at him. Diana pinned his front firmly to the ground, but there was a growing confusion on her face.

"Wrong lover, Quinn," Bruce retorted. "What about Shadow?" Harley was just about to bring down the hammer when your hero name got her attention, got her to pause her actions. "He truly believed in you when you yourself couldn't."

Her hands trembled, but Grodd/Hades shouted, "Finish him!" Harley looked down at Bats with quivering eyes, and then... finally swung down!
