The Morning After

Sleeping in was your status quo, but after yesterday you felt you deserved ever stolen wink especially with how fucking comfy you were right now. Ignoring hazy reality, you tried to fall back asleep but were promptly interrupted.

“Hey baby kangaroo time to wake up. C’mon Joey I’ve already let you sleep in.”

Still refusing to return to reality you ignored Lilly.

“Seriously, it’s time to get up. Joseph Larson Ashwood wake up right now!”

Shit…she broke out the full name time to get up.

As your eyelids shot open, you saw Lilly hovering over you. Enrobed by her long brown hair you looked around and realized you were laying in her lap with your head tightly cradled in her loving hands. Leaning down she gave you a loud smooch on the forehead.

“It’s about time you woke up sweetie. I’ve been sitting here for an hour waiting for you.”

“Aw, mom you didn’t have to wait for me. You should have just done a Bee and smothered me with a pillow till I woke up.”

Rolling her pistachio green eyes, she gave you a small chuckle.

“You know Brie loves you she just has her own way of showing it. Besides after today who knows how many times I’ll get to sit here and watch my boy sleep. Soon you’ll be so busy with college, then graduating, finding your first job, dating, and starting your career, after that marriage, having kids of your own, raising them, and trying to make sure they turn out alright then oh my god.”

Cutting her off you stared blankly at her

“Mom you’re spiraling again”

“Huh? Oh sorry dear. Anyways I talked to Brie last night. She knows you moving in with Janae is for the best and regrets yesterday.”

“Could you have fooled me” you huffed.

“Hun!” Lilly barked sternly

“Sorry”

“Like I said you know how she is. She really does love you with all her heart. Brie just has a hard time letting go.”

“I don’t recall her raising this much of a stink about Taylor or Janae moving out.”

Lilly burst out laughing.

“Darling she cried for days after Janae moved into the dorms and was inconsolable when Taylor left. You just never noticed wrapped up in your own little world.”

“Oh” You responded thinking back how both times you had made yourself majorly scarce for days.

You felt like a major ass now.

“Besides it’s different with you. You’re the youngest, the last one to fly the coop…”

You quickly expected some tears but Lilly somehow managed to hold it together.

“And that’s not even counting the fact she was the one who birthed you”

“MOM!”

“It’s true, I had Janae and Taylor but you were Brie’s baby. She spent nine months with you, nurturing you, carrying you”

“MOM! Please no more, I don’t need to hear anymore, I’m up I’m going to take a very hot shower and possibly drink some bleach”

Lilly smiled still remembering exactly how to make you red as a cherry tomato.

Picking up your towel you headed for the door hoping those mental images weren’t permeant.

“Hunny!”

“What?” You grimaced

“All I’m saying is please cut Brie some slack, she’s just showing her emotions in her own way.”

“Alright.”

You responded knowing Lilly was right.

“Also where is your comforter?”

You immediately hightailed it out of there and dashed to the bathroom.
