Chapter 9

How many guards are there?
Eight
?What?s your name then, girl?? The redhead asked Druuna as they came nearer to the guardhouse. The ?girl? bit was obviously an attempt to establish some sense of authority, because the redhead looked to be as young as Druuna, or even a few years younger.
Not objecting to the ?girl? bit, but making sure that she sounded confident, Druuna stated her name, and then asked the redhead for hers.
?Mara,? the redhead replied, and then the man gave his as being ?Janos? as soon as Druuna turned her head to look at him.
The guardhouse was a one-story building made primarily from bricks, which had no doubt be scavenged from ruined old buildings since they were in a multitude of colours, ranging from dark purple to pale yellow.
Mara opened the door and Janos pushed Druuna into the house, which she found consisting of one large room that seemed only marginally smaller than the entire building, which meant that what the rooms currently hidden behind the two doors built into the innermost wall could be little more than storages or holding cells or some similarly small spaces.
As for the large room, four narrow bunks were placed alongside the walls, two on each side, while there was a small kitchen near the far right corner, and a large table in the centre of the room.
Around the table there were ten chairs, and six of these were currently occupied by guards. Having been playing cards when Druuna had been pushed into the room, the guards around the table, all of whom were either wearing the green jacket or had draped it over the back of their chairs, had now halted the card game to ogle the new arrival.
With Mara and Janos coming in behind her, this meant that the guards numbered eight in total, while Druuna had guessed that there wouldn?t be more than four or five. The number was particularly high since the house obviously wasn?t meant to serve as a permanent home to them, which meant that there was most likely at least one more shift of guards, and with the possibility of others being out watching other spots or patrolling this meant that the town?s total number of serving guards might be as high or twenty or thirty. Usually in the towns that Druuna had passed through, there was rarely more than a handful of guards, while the towns? major defences were either non-existent or built around a militia.
Still, Druuna kept her surprise over their number hidden from the guards and stood proud and confident on the open floor, giving off an impression that she knew that she held the attention of everyone in the room, and that she was well aware of the fact that they all wanted to fuck her.
?Who?s this?? One of the guards around the table, a leanly built man with dark brown skin and grey hair, asked Janos and Mara.
?This sweet piece of ass, Dak, is Druuna,? Janos told him, ?and she showed up like this outside the gates. I convinced her that letting us all fuck her would be a good way of paying the price of admission.?
?Remind me to buy you a drink next time we?re at the pub, Janos,? another one of the guards, a blonde woman of equally voluptuous proportions as Mara, said.
Druuna wasn?t just surprised at the fact that two of the eight guards were women, but also because they seemed every bit as eager as their male counterparts to sleep with her.
?Wim, Nance,? Dak suddenly said, ?you boys have been around the shortest, so you?ll watch the gates until us older folks have had our fun.?
The two youngest-looking men around the table suddenly began looking very disappointed, but obeyed Dak by getting up and, after casting randy stares at Druuna, walked out through the door.
Left in the house with Druuna were four men and two women, all of which were impatient to have their way with her.
