Last vamp standing

Oh, great, thought Sarah. The Master just ran out on her and now her friend Barbara was no more than a handful of dust.

On the bright side, it looked like just her and a roomful of humans.

Or so she thought before she felt a quick poke in the back.

"Reach for the sky," said a female voice with an American accent.

"I beg your pardon?" asked Sarah.

"Raise your hands or I'll send you to join your red-headed friend," said the mysterious voice.

Lucy Westenra just clucked her lips and said, "No need for that, Susan. I'm sure Miss What's-Her-Name intends to cooperate with us quite fully. Now, Miss Er-Blonde, where can we get some clothes?"

Sarah laughed. "You want me -- to get you -- some clothes?"

"Why, yes, I do," said Lucy. "Now why do you find that question so funny?"

"Because I'm a vampire," said Sarah. "And I obey the word of no man."

"Not even Count Dracula, the Master of this castle?" asked Lucy.

"Well, yes," said Sarah. "But he's an exception. He's my Master."

"Then I must be an exception, too," said Lucy. "After all, as you can plainly see in my current state of dress, I'm not a man."

"So what?" asked Sarah. "You're still a human. I don't have to obey you."

"And I don't have to keep you alive," said Lucy. "Especially after hearing all the things my friend Jane Harker has told me about you. Now about those clothe --"

Before Lucy finished her sentence, Sarah ran out of the room and ran down to the stairs, not stopping until she reached the front entrance. Then she opened the door, put two fingers to her lips and whistled.

Within moments, an enormous wolf -- one even larger than Fenris, the wolf that was normally on guard duty -- ran up to the door. It said something about the size of the wolf that it made the average St. Bernard look like a French poodle by comparison.

Sarah simply looked at it, beckoned at it with one finger and said, "Come with me, Cerberus. I have a job for you."
