"Th-Thanks," I said, feeling my face grow hot at the praise the girls were giving me, "But you two are making it sound like way smarter of an idea than it actually is... and you and Diana did most of the thinking for me anyway."

"Well, you're still the one who took both of our advice and made the final call," Kara said. Then with a wink she added, "Besides, I don't know about Diana, but I like proving that I'm more than just a pretty face in a cape."

"Oh, I know that," I teased, "For example, you're also a pretty face in horn-rimmed glasses."

Diana did one of those fake coughs that people in movies do to get the attention of a couple lost in flirting with each other, and said, "Now that we know what the long-term plan is, I believe it would be best if Starfire went home, while it is still early enough in the morning that she won't get caught en route. Assuming she's feeling okay to do so, that is."

Starfire got out of the bed and picked up her skintight shorts, "Yes, I am very okay. In fact, I am feeling much better than I have felt in the past few days. Thank you for helping me, Charlie."

"Uh, don't mention it," I told her.

"Seriously, don't," Kara repeated firmly, "We can't let anyone outside this room know what's going on between the four of us."

Starfire frowned, "It will be hard for me to keep this a secret, given how much I like being open about my love... but for you Charlie, I will keep the word mum."

I was stunned at how completely unfazed she was at what just happened. I couldn't help but ask her, "That's it? That's all you have to say after what happened?"

"Um, yeah," Kara said with a frown, "I mean, it's getting pretty late and..."

"You don't even care that now there's two other women I need to have sex with regularly?" I asked incredulously, "The problem's getting worse Kara, and you just want to brush it off like nothing happened?"

"Of course I care!" Kara snapped, "But between this, and the Metallo attack that we still have no real idea who might have orchestrated it, and Kal wanting to lecture me about how I completely screwed up the whole secret identity thing, which by the way would make it my fault you were targeted in the first place, and having the entire damn League in our apartment watching us 24/7..."

Near tears, she pressed herself against me and quietly admitted, "...I don't want to think about any of that right now, okay? I just want us to get back in bed, cuddle up with each other, and pretend that everything's still fine… Can we do that? Please?"

Wanting nothing more than to comfort her, I wrapped my own arms around Kara and gave her a kiss on the forehead, "Yeah. We can do that."

Together, Kara and I got back in bed and, once the lights were off again, held each other close, our bodies locked in a lover's embrace. Diana still stood guard of course, but she respected us enough to keep her distance from the bed and do her best to stay still and silent so we could pretend she wasn't there.

I knew that we would have to deal with whatever was going on soon, and despite their resistance to the idea I'd have to get the two of them to redouble their efforts to find out who was mind-controlling Diana and Starfire. But there was some small part of me though that feared that they weren't the only ones being influenced. It was something I really didn't want to believe, especially with how differently she acted towards me compared to the others, but I couldn't deny that there was a very real possibility that Kara's love for me might be as artificial as the other heroines' was. And considering that I was truly, hopelessly in love with Kara, that thought absolutely terrified me.

So I stopped thinking about it. I pushed those thoughts aside, held my girlfriend in my arms, and told myself that everything would turn out alright as I drifted off to sleep.
