Chapter 12 by UnrulyDogboy UnrulyDogboy

What do you do?

Attend Coach Joel AM Practice

It is very early, but you are serious about becoming a competitive swimmer. These AM practices are probably your best chance at improving and earning a spot at meets.

Three different practices are posted on the whiteboard, each designed for a different set of goals: endurance, sprints, and stroke development. There are only a handful of swimmers in attendance. You could probably ask Joel (the assistant coach that runs these AM sessions) for a personalized workout.

Joel was at the far side of the pool, kneeling down and talking to a swimmer you didn't recognize. Joel saw you approach and stood up.

"Hey, Adam glad you decided to join us. "

"You couldn't keep me away."

You reached down and cupped your hand over the bulge in his swim trunks.

Joel dropped his clipboard. When you made eye contact, Joel lowered his gaze and spoke quietly.

"Not during practice, please."

You gave his balls a quick squeeze and moved your hand away. Joel bent down and picked up his clipboard.

_Nice ass. _What was it about Coach Joel that make me want to bend him over a desk and...

"What do you want to get out of these practices?"

"I have always been a mid-distance freestyler and backstroker, but I really just want to make the competition team."

Joel tapped his pen on his clipboard, leaned down, and spoke to the swimmer in the lane.

"Andrew, can you move over to the next lane. I want to use the video equipment with Adam."

Andrew glanced up at you and smiled.

"Sure."

Joel turned to you.

"Take 15 minutes to warm up. I am going to set up the recording equipment."

You jumped into the lane and started swimming laps. Your body glided through the water. Swimming always felt great, but this was an entirely elevated experience.

This must be what HC meant by "humanity plus."

You pushed off the wall to do a 50m lap of backstroke and did several dolphin-kicks underwater. You broke the surface just two strokes from the opposite wall. Joel was kneeling down next to the starting block at the end of your lane.

"Impressive, but slow it down, you are supposed to be warming up. The cameras are ready to record. I want you to swim a 400 IM."

"I don't compete in the IM, my breaststroke is crap."

Joel got up and walked over to the tech table.

"You don't compete in any event, yet. Get up on the block. 400 IM on my start."

You got up on the block.

Joel sounded the starting tone. The butterfly leg felt good, but you really kicked it into gear on the backstroke. You expected to feel fatigued at the end of the first 200, but when you made the turn to start the breaststroke, you still had plenty of fuel in the tank. The 100 meters of breaststroke was lousy but better than you expected. You poured everything into the final 100 freestyle.

When you finished, you felt tired but not exhausted. Andrew was resting in the lane to your left. Joel walked over.

"4 minute 50. Get your towel and come into the office."

"Is that good enough to get me..."

Coach Joel looked pissed.

"I said, grab your fucking towel and meet me in the office. Andrew, get up on deck, I need you to keep an eye on the other swimmers until I return."

Joel turned and walked into the coaching office.

"I don't know what you did. But I have never heard Uncle Joel swear. Good luck.

You climbed out of the pool and walked into the office.

How to handle Coach Joel
