To catch a thief

I knew the main weakness of the Museum was the roof. There was a skylight that was not well protected by any of the alarm systems the Museum used. That was where I headed to. When I arrived, I saw the skylight had been jimmied open in a very meticulous and methodical way. Whoever this Onyx was, she was very good, and very thorough, leaving nothing to chance. But like the fool I am, I thought myself invulnerable and invincible, even to a brainy, methodical thief like Onyx. I silently floated down through the open skylight, looking around as I descended. So far, everything appeared to be normal. The skylight was at the center of the Museum, so there was lots of ground to cover. Or at least there would have been had I not known what section of the Museum the Jade Diamond was being displayed.

The Museum itself had three floors. The center of the Museum was more like a rotunda that featured escalators and elevators that would take visitors to the different levels. The lower floor I was most familiar with, since geological and anthropological finds were displayed there. I don't like to brag, but I had several geological displays at the Museum. Among them were chunks of the asteroid which had given me my super powers, as well as a display of Eroticnite that was kept behind a shielded case made of transparent lead. Eroticnite was my weakness, as I discovered while out in the field the same day I was hit with super powers.

The floor I was going to target was the second floor. That's where ancient artifacts and rare oddities were displayed. The Jade Diamond would be there, and so would Onyx. So I descended to the second floor, choosing the spoke that held the artifacts. I hovered through the corridors so I wouldn't set off any alarms by accident, alerting Onyx to my presence. I glanced carefully into each side room as I grew closer to my destination. The gemstone room.

Once there at the gemstone room, I observed my foe, hovering above the case which held the Jade Diamond. She was a slinky little thief who wore her catsuit well. Every curve was fully on display, and she reeked of sensuality. She was so engrossed in capturing her prey that she didn't notice me right away. the element of surprise was on my side.

I flew like a dart, sending her crashing into the wall. She was still able to maintain her ability to hover, even though I had knocked her for a loop. She looked at me, both startled and amazed through the mask she wore. "Well, what brings you to my domain, Liberty Girl?"

"Oh, I think you know the answer to that, Onyx," I replied.

"You know, you can't stop me," she smugly said. "So since you can't stop me, why not join me? Look at all of this wonderful stuff we could carry out of here together. We could live like queens for the rest of our lives. Of course, I may already be a Queen, in which case, you will have to obey me." She fished a golden hat out of a black sack she was carrying. Do you know what this is?" she asked. "It's the Kerwood Derby, which is said to be magical. it chose the ancient kings of Kerwood. I'm sure it will choose a Queen, too." She put the derby on her head, and to my surprise, it spoke to her. "My Lady!" it said. "You have been chosen as the very first Queen of Kerwood. May your life be long, and may you use my powers for the good of the people."

I watched in awe as she was suddenly transformed from a catsuit wearing criminal into a figurehead of royalty. She was now one to be respected and revered. "Bow down before me, and offer me fealty," she commanded. "You will be my right hand, and together we will rule over the Earth with an iron hand!"
