Chapter 6 by TheArchitect TheArchitect

What signal?

"I'll go by the wall to not get lost. Perhaps I'll also find where to put my freezing feet."

Jen tiptoed to the wall and started to move along. Each step was painfully cold, but she still felt more secure moving along its perfectly smooth surface. Soon she felt some kind of blinds under her fingers. They promised a way to escape the floor, so the blinded girl quickly dove through them.

The air did not get any warmer, but the floor was covered by some thin carpeting, and that allowed Jen to land her whole foot onto it without much discomfort. Now that Jen was not hurried anymore, she decided to find out where she was.

"Hello?" — she asked loudly. There was almost no echo, so she assumed it was a small room.

The only alien sound there was the quiet buzzing ahead of her, but Jen decided to explore this compartment a little more with her fingers. They quickly found some kind of cases. Their frames were metal, while their contents lied under a layer of plastic or glass — the girl was not sure. She knocked on the material. The glass ringed as a response, so this must have been a jewelry store case.

"I can't see under there." — Jen thought, — "Can I open the thing though?"

After she found the keyhole on the side of the case, she thought about breaking the glass as the only way of fulfilling her curiosity.

"But what if I cut myself? I don't even know if there's a first aid kit nearby."
